Depends on your diet during the day. If you eat healthy and keep yourself FULL with healthy snacks and lunch then you shouldn't have to eat during the night. If you feel you need more to eat during the day, but know that you are on diet - that could potentially be messing you up. Because during the day you neglect the food and you can go through with it, then at night - your body grows weaker and it needs energy - so you pound for the food and end up eating more then you would have guessed - this actually causes more weight gain then having a chocolate bar during a day or even a proper lunch.
The best thing to do is to make sure you eat right and in proportion! Always keep a snack with you and a water bottle! Carrots, broccoli, cucumbers, granola bar - anything that will keep your stomach satisfied. You won't get hungry at night if you keep yourself full through out the day.
But, if you ARE eating right and still hound for the food at night, then you can try this: When you feel the urge to eat late at night, try drinking 2 or more cups of water. You can also make a cup of herbal tea sweeten with honey or artificial sugar. Hot liquids have a soothing effect on emotions and appetite. Remind yourself of your goal to lose 20 or 30 pounds and the key to losing this weight is to STOP late night eating. The mini self notes make a TON of difference! Grab a sheet of paper and keep writing it down till you have psyched yourself with it! Hide your junk food or w/e it is that you get a desire to eat - ask a family member to hide it for you! Suck on hard candy. Most hard candy have only a few calories and they give you the satisfaction of snacking. Keep a written copy of your diet plan in view, which will keep your goal of losing weight firmly fixed in your mind. Go brush your teeth! I know it works for me! As soon as I go and brush my teeth - I don't have a temptation to go and eat anymore. The next best thing you can do is do something you love. Go for a run, listen to your ipod, surf the net, talk to a friend on the phone, text message random people, go buy yourself something nice, give yourself a massage or hit the spa, go on youtube and watch dane cook lol! Do anything that will keep you busy! And hopefully you can change your habit!

My mom lost almost 100 pounds so I can help you with anything you need.! and she did this on here own.! no surgery.! what you can start off doing is QUIT buying junk food and buy nothing but healthy food.that way if you eat everything then its all gonna be healthy food and not junk food.! you could also try exercising for about 45 twice a week.! and when you eat your meals DON'T eat until you fool eat until you feel it'll hold you over for awhile.then if you get hungry again eat carrots or something instead of having a whole other meal.just try to stay AWAY from junk food and try exercise.please message me and ask for help if you need anything AT ALL.!

20 pounds is a realistic goal, but it might not be exactly the healthiest.
Do a BMI calculator .its basically your height in meters over weight in kilograms
now, if you loose too much weight, you could be underweight or malnourished. That is not healthy.
But, if you find that it is a good target weight, you have to burn the fat off.
first off, eat less, but more often. its okay to eat 5-6 meals a day with snacks in between. Just make sure they are not empty calories. Make sure the caloric content gives you some nutritional value.
Appetitive is controlled by a couple factors, minerals and vitamins in the blood, how full the stomach is, and psychological factors.
20 pounds can take awhile. At least 20 weeks. that is assuming that every day you are under 500 calories of what you normally intake. 500 calories/day = 1 pound a week lost.
Be sure to exercise and intake lots of water.

First off hun, you can't stop eating. If you want to lose weight, you need to eat, but eat healthy. When you stop eating, then your metabolism goes down, because your body doesn't know when you're going to eat next. So when you finally eat, it immediately stores it as fat. But when you eat a lot, your metabolism goes up, because your body is constantly having to burn the calories for energy.
If you want to lose weight, you need to eat a bunch of small meals throughout the day. Don't stuff your face. And make sure you eat semi healthy. You also need to drink a lot of water! It will be tough at first, but force yourself to drink water, and see if you can get up to a couple gallons a day. And finally, you need to exercise. You can do aerobic exercises to burn calories, and then do like weights and machines to tone your body.

Okay girl, first of all unless you're under four feet tall, 138lbs isn't at all a bad weight to be at. Constantly I see my best friends obsess over their weight and it just ruins them, as well as me. But if you're firm in your decision to lose weight, realize that it is an emotional as well as physical journey, Meditation can help you focus and gain energy, yoga can also help you, it will get the blood flowing but keep you relaxed. Protein rich foods, or even some shakes consumed in small amounts can give you that extra boost of energy you need if you plan on eating a very restrictive diet. Best of luck to you lovey.

-AndrewDavidOmg I have that problem too. What you should do is drink a lot of water. A lot of the time we eat when we really should drink water, because your body can interpret thirst as hunger.
Also try not to eat so much carbs, and eat protein more because it feels you up faster. And more veggies on your plate than meat and carbs.
Wake up early & go to bed early.
