Severe pain in swollen thumb please help me figure out what's wrong?

My thumb has been swollen for a few days now and and has severe pain in it. I don't know if I have any cuts or something on it as I don't see any. My parents keep saying it's infected though. And the pain is getting awful to the point it feels like a shooting pain up my whole arm and wrist. Not just the thumb. And to the point I can't even sleep and am in tears over how bad it hurts now. And I'm what to do because I can't afford 2 see a doctor and my parents acted like they don't want 2 take me. But I'm in horrible pain and need help please

It does look infected. The best answer is to go to the doctor, but until then, try very hot soaks (don't burn yourself, but as hot as you can stand without burning yourself) for 10 minutes every 4 hours.

Infections in the hand can damage nerves and muscles. The only real answer is to go to the doctor or emergency room. Until then, take some pain reliever like Tylenol and soak it.

It looks like a hang nail on your thumb , it is swelled and yeah you should see a doctor for help , It could be you have arthritis.

You're going to have to get it treated if it's infected. Go to the hospital, even if you have to call a friend to take you there

Where do you think it's infected at? Did you have an ingrown nail or a hang nail?

I don't know if it's infected and I don't think I have either of those

Hmm. Maybe something bit you? You could try Intraluminal's suggestion but add a goodly amount of salt to kill off any infection.

If you don't get a result from that you can try making a paste of baking soda and water and seeing if anything gets drawn out.

Yeah I was thinking it must have been a bite. It would b fine if at times the pain wouldn't become excruciating. I can deal with it when it just hurts a little bit

I think the joint. The swollen area is at the top bend of my thumb, so it's so swollen I can't bend it
