Diet soda drinkers out there?
thoughts?
There is another problem with drinking diet soda. The theory behind it is that when you use artificial sweetener your body is waiting for the actual carb kick that would come from regular sugar and when it doesn't get it, you end up hungry or eating larger portions at your next meal to make up for what the soda did not give you.
I will say I wondered why I knew several noticeably overweight people in my life that have horrible diet soda addictions. My ex-husband would drink probably 12 or more diet cokes in a day and he said it gave him energy, but honestly I never saw that and he struggled with cravings and his weight. I know a few other people who drink ungodly amounts of diet soda in a day and they also have chronic weight problems.
So, who knows for sure about the correlation between diet drinks and cravings or overeating, but it just goes back to an old adage, most anything in moderation is fine. You shouldn't drink either regular or diet soda on a daily basis. Neither provide any nutritional value. So, whether you drink an occasional diet soda or regular one, I don't see a problem. If you want to drink the typical 16 oz or more drink of one of these beverages on a daily basis or with every meal, that is a habit you should break.
Yes, but it doesn't help them, which is sad. And, it is obsessive. My ex-husband would leave diet coke cans all around the house. He was a junky. I do think there is a link to overeating and diet soda addiction, but that is me and not a scientific study though I did read about the study that I site in my first paragraph.
I heard that diet soda makes you hungrier I don't know that kind of seems like a bit of an oxy moron to me I'm going to drink this diet soda only so I can be hungrier and eat more food taking in more calories than I would if I had just had a regular soda but I agree drinking water is good for you I am terrible at drinking water but my body really needs it since I am out hiking in the desert all the time so what I do is I add those instant drink mixes to my water makes it yum and I am still hydrated and I don't feel as weighted down as I would if I were to have had a soda of either king
Whenever I hear a commercial saying their diet flavor tastes the same as the regular, the voice in my head starts screaming "LIAR!" I've done taste comparisons, sipping regular and then diet and repeating, they are noticeably different in taste. As for which one, I drink regular. I do not care about calories and I don't trust no calorie sweeteners. I don't care if a study says they're unhealthy or not, I don't trust them anyway. I just wish we could use real sugar in the soda instead of high fructose corn syrup. I've had the Coke with real sugar (if you want to try it, they do sell it but you've really gotta look around for it) and the real sugar soda tastes the best. It isn't a massive difference but it's a smoother but still sweet taste, not as syrupy I guess. But drink whatever you want, soda isn't healthy any kind you drink. Get some water or milk or juice
Overall...im a HUGE advocate of diet soda. When I was living away from home for college, diet soda was the only soda that I kept @ my place. I personally find regular soda too sweet for my taste (I treat them like candy rather than a beverage), & I find diet soda to taste better to my palette, as well as more refreshing.
Aspartame/Splenda or HFCS ... both are chemicals, but I'll take the fake sugar, because the calories in it is minimal. As long as you aren't drinking 2ltrs of it a day & eat well, the health effects should be minimal, if any.

my thoughts are soda in general is not very good for you. in fact, the only thing that is really good for you is water, and the occasional herbal tea. I read a book called "you are not sick, you are just thirsty" and it was written by a doctor who did extensive research on the importance of water. what he found was that chronic dehydration can actually be responsible for migrain headaches, depression, lack of energy, arthritis, and so many more illnesses that people usually treat with pharmaceuticals. what's crazy is this doctor went to the NIH several times with these findings and the NIH was not interested because treating them is far to profitable as opposed to curing them. this doesn't exactly answer your question I suppose, but I thought it was related and I hope you found it somewhat useful :)
Didn't it used to cause cancer too? Stuff like this doesn't surprise me, I only trust what comes from nature. Soda companies only care about making things taste good and sales, they don't give a crap about your health. Or course they won't sell something that will kill you right away because no one would buy it. Most the health problems show up in the long run when your older (cancers, heart disease, stroke, etc). Don't trust something only because it's "FDA approved", the FDA gets kick backs from big companies for approving their products. Use common sense when you choose what to put in your body. How does that stuff taste so sweet but has no effects on your body?
**also an ingredient may be "natural" but it can still be toxic depending on how it's refined or processed.
If you want to be healthy you gotta be willing to do some research. You only get one body, take care of it:)
ALL soda is bad, there's no justifying one being better than the other.
Although I only drink water and occasionally tea or a Starbucks drink, there are certain cokes I prefer diet. Like, I prefer regular coke, despise regular pepsi but love diet pepsi
Basically if you continuously drink diet stuff your going to f*** up your internals quite nicely, but you won't gain weight off of it. Sugar isn't great for you, but it's better than the artificial sh*t.

I would just like to say that the whole ASPARTAME / SPLENDA is worse for you is garbage. Please do your research and stop believing random internet sites that say "An unreleased study by Dr. xxxxxxx shows aspartame causes 65 SERIOUS health hazards OMG!"
I don't notice a major difference, personally I think diet soda may be abit more gassy. A lot of Soda is supposedly attributing to raising your chances of catching cancer, sugar isn't good, but diet isn't much better since they recreated it using a ton of other unhealthy crap.
Thoughts? Don't drink soda at all.
Second thoughts- if you are drinking something that isn't the best for you, but drinking it's "less bad for you" cousin instead, what are you really trying to accomplish. Start drinking water, milk, juice, or things like that instead of soda.
If you are GOING to drink soda.. just drink it regular. You know the side effects of sugar, and you know how much you can handle in your diet. I never understood "diet" soda.. if you are looking for something good, drink regular soda.. if you're looking for something healthy, drink water or milk or something GOOD.. not a artificial soda.
Diet sodas are awful for you and your health. They're full of aspartame, which is a kind of sugar that can cause blindness. If I'm going to drink soda or iced tea, I'm going to drink regular and be done with it. Diet and zero are even worse for you, they contain artificial sweeteners like splenda.
Where did you hear that aspartame in Diet Soda, can cause blindness?
From my mom, who is a health food guru. She's known about aspartame way before it hit mainstream, among other products. And it does cause blindness.
the aspartame thing is a myth. its basically two amino acids attached to one another and your body breaks it down naturally those that say other wise have no basis for an argument and they are just perpetuating myths
Aspartame breaks down into; aspartic acid, phenylalanine, methanol, formaldehyde, and formic acid.
Sounds familiar... could a couple of these be used in the making of ecstasy? Yep. They could and are. Will you be arguing the fact that ecstasy is hazardous to your health as well?
dudeman is right. Aspartame and Splenda are 100% proven to be safe. All the materials aspartame breaks down to are found in 10x higher doses, in fruits and vegetables like raspberries, corn, and tomatoes. Splenda doesn't even break down in your body, it passes through in the same form it originally goes in. But dudeman, you'll have to get used to it, people will believe any hoax site they see on the internet and any scary rumor they hear.
my friends mom hates diet pop because of this thing called as pertain that they haven't tested on and think it can give you caner and stuff diet pop is just fake food that's not good for you
No, aspartame can cause definite health problems...
I'm not ignorant, thanks though.
It's just a comment guys : / she asked and I was just telling her the knowlage I new from my PDF class and my friends mum
I googled your exact argument so stop trying to act like you're intelligent when clearly you aren't. Do you know nothing of scientific studies? And last time I checked, just because something has the FDA seal of approval doesn't make it healthy at all.
if you are watching your sodium then diet drinks aren't for you.. if you just want to watch your weight then diet drinks are a great thing! I drink only diet
I don't drink anything but water and protein shakes. Ever. Except for the occasional social drinking occasion and then I will drink whiskey or scotch.
I never liked the taste of diet sodas. Except those Cokes are like "Diet Coke with Cherry/Lime" or whatever. They're really yummy. Do they even do those any more? :S
I like it ,I hate eating a lot of cals and ya gotta die someway so I'll take my chances .
There will always be debate and general medical advice will say "there is no consensus"
Avoid soda all around. Get your sugar through smoothies (yum!) that you make yourself. Fruits, ice, juice, and protein powder.
I Usually drink pop occasionally. Not my favorite drink but it's good occasionally.
ALL Soda is Badddddd for you...especially Coca cola...research it. :/
My mommy always told me that I should stay away from diet drinks. They ain't gud fer me!
I think soda is delicious and diet soda is gross. Hence, I'll stick to my high fructose corn syrup.
