Trust me, you'd know if you had it. It's not just being quirky or a little different, your whole life is changed compared to a normal person's. Even something simple such as eye contact and how long you maintain eye contact without being awkward had to be taught to me like math, it wasn't intuitive at all. Loud noises and lights will bother me a lot more than most people and I had to have considerable help and was even held back a grade growing up but I ended up graduating with honors in normal classes.
According to that data only one in three autistic people ever go on a date, I am already among the elite having slept with 5 people and that's not a lot for someone my age who isn't fucked up.
I was tested over the series of 2 days at Tufts hospital in Boston by top professionals. Autism is a specific thing, it's not just quirks. Having autism will make you feel like an alien among your fellow man.
Just so you know, me being this normal and talking to you like this took a lot of work to get to and was never quite natural.
Imagine an alien shapeshifter trying to pass themselves off as human and while they are may be intelligent and can do pass for a while over time you notice things just aren't quite right about them. The little social cues that let you know the other person is human are coming in all wrong and some of the things they say or even how they move is out of place. Your instincts to protect the tribe kick in and naturally you don't want to be around this weird.. thing.
I'm nice enough that people aren't unnerved by me but I wanted to illustrate an example with that shapeshifter.

i haven't been diagnosed but been wondering for a while if i have adhd or not, i do get hyper-focused on stuff im interested in sometimes
I was diagnosed with ADHD and autism when I was 12 and I guess one thing I hyperfocus on is television but I still get good grades in school
Sometimes I hyperfocus on research projects. But that's a good thing.
We have a weird situation of the ability to diagnose autism better, and people wanting to be autistic cuz it sounds cool.
Autism was never cool when I was growing up and nobody thinks it's cool these days when I bring it up.
@Juxtapose what is autism then, to you? I also asked on another post moments ago.
I have a feeling we all fall on the autism spectrum to some degree. It’s simply imperfections in neurodevelopment. Which can’t be perfect of course.

Are you suggesting an equivalency between autism and ADHD? I'm just asking.
