Well, if you have a scale you could weigh some regular objects and then let them play around with those to see what weight they can handle safely. Maybe you have a paperweight that's 1lb, or a gallon of milk that's 2 or 3. (That's probably the wrong weight, but I don't have a scale or a gallon of milk right now.)
I think you can buy little weight sets of like, sets of 2, 3, and 5 lbs. That would probably be the smallest dumbells you can get.
Alternatively, you can download them a home workout app that doesn't use weights. I use one that is mostly push-ups and things like that that use the body for the weight. I bet little kids can also do those types of workouts decently, and you wouldn't even have to adjust as much because it uses your own body weight.

I use a specific sort of group of apps for my workouts if that's what you mean, but there's many different apps for that you can find.

The highest rated ones I've seen have been from Leap Fitness Group in the appstore. I haven't used any others, but also haven't had any problem with these.

Yes , they certainly can , just show them how to use and take seriously how you begin to lift , store , use for purpose only , just start them on those small " lady " style weights , and make sure they are also involved in Cardio , and be sure they understand the importance of how we treat our equipment , it can be fun , but its not a game , a lifetime of fitness awaits the boys.
