I'm sick, I got something from work. Probably got it from either a co-worker or a child.
Around twenty years ago, I got food poisoning and seriously felt so ill that I thought I was going to die.
What happened was that I was on a long road trip and my car broke down. It was a hot summer day and all the while waiting for assistance, my lunch bag in the backseat was getting warm because my car was off and the AC no longer was keeping the car cool. In that lunch bag, I had a ham sandwich, among other things.
After the car ordeal was over with, I was hungry and without knowing any better, I unwrapped the ham sandwich and ate it--warm while I was back on the road again. I didn't think much of it because I've had cooked ham for dinner, and hot grilled sandwiches at restaurants so what was the difference if the ham was warm from the car?--I thought.
What I didn't realize is that it was an instant breeding ground for bacteria. It's different when meat is cooked, piping hot, but this was warmed in a hot car. If I remember correctly I think I ate the whole sandwich and immediately got sick. I pulled over and vomited.
I couldn't stop pulling over and getting sick. It was every few minutes, and each attack was incredibly painful and bad. Not far ahead, I found a gas station and went into the washroom where I undressed (I was hot and uncomfortable) and in between throwing up, I lay on the cool tiles in between each bout of vomiting in the stall. At one point it was so devastating, and I felt so hopelessly weak and defeated from it all, that as I continued vomiting and laying on the tiles, I was sure I was going to die.
Spoiler: I didn't die.

Just flashes here & there. I lost 1/3 of my body weight during this time. The docs didn't think I would live. they said the 103 to 105 temperature alone should have killed me.

Sounds familiar. Doctors told me after, that if I had waited 2 more days, I would have died.
1.6K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. Other than the flu, I don't know. I lost over 10lbs last Christmas from having what I think was the flu. I was surviving off bananas, water, & medicine. Everything hurt & I felt like I was going to pass out every time I got up to use the bathroom.
I was actually kinda glad I had it because I was kinda depressed so I was hoping it would kill me. But it didn't sadly.
Anyway, here's a song I would listen to as I was laying down trying to cope with the agony of it all:

I usually don’t get really sick, but a few years ago I got a random severe case of very severe tonsillitis. I couldn’t swallow without unbearable pain so the only option I had was to sleep, I couldn’t eat anything either and could barely talk.
When I finally ended up going to the hospital 3 days later the doctor told me I had the worst case of tonsillitis he had ever seen. The back of my throat was completely yellow and swollen. He asked me why I hadn’t come in earlier but I’m the type to ignore things and hope they just go away, lol.
Anyways, after doing the scan of my throat they prescribed me steroids. It worked great, took the pain away from swallowing and a few days later (gross warning) the yellow pieces started peeling off of my throat. Still to this day I have no idea why I randomly got that sickness and have never been that sick ever since or even before that.32 Reply- +1 y
So they didn't remove your tonsils?

+1 yThere was two times I got really sick out of nowhere.
The first time was when I was a kid I had the worst headache known to man. I threw up and after that I couldn't stand at all. I was bedridden for several days and had the worst fever ever.
The second time was when I was around 23 or 24, and I thought I was dying. I had the shivers, my body ached everywhere and I threw up like nobody's business. I happened to be vegan then so I don't know why I got really sick. Maybe it was a symptom of detoxifying my body from all the dairy and meat I had been eating. But it was pretty bad.10 Reply
+1 yI always suffered from migraines since I was a child but in January 2020 I had the worst migraine of my life. Took me over a month to get rid of it. I thought I was going to die the migraine disrupted my daily life completely, it wouldn't let me sleep, it got worse whenever I laid down, I lost my appetite and I was nauseous 24/7 and threw up every day for one month because of the pain. I went to several doctors, did MRIs, CT scans and other exams and the doctors could not find anything and the only thing they would prescribe me was ibuprofen or paracetamol.
After nearly two months the migraine started fading and eventually went away till this day I don't know what triggered that.
I still have migraines but as soon as I take some painkillers it goes away.20 ReplyGastroenteritis.
I was puking bile and black blood from my stomach. I lost 7lbs in less than a week.
It was absolutely terrible. Especially since they kept saying they couldn’t do anything the first 3/4 days.
The 5th day after spending 8 hours in the hospital they finally had “results” and said I had a UTI because they found blood in my urine even though I told them 3 times I was on my period 🥴

20 Reply433 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. Salmonella from a hamburger patty while on vacation at Disneyland. The hamburger was from a nearby restaurant. I was sick in the hotel for a few days unable to be far from the bathroom. A doctor was called in who prescribed antibiotics that helped within 24 hours.

+1 yI never really got sick before 25, I have had Covid twice and flu once since then. So far, this flu has been pretty bad. Thankfully I am fine on my 3rd day. But the first two days, my whole life almost flashed before my eyes 😄😃
40 ReplyThe worst pain that I ever had was a kidney stone. If you can count that as an illness.
Women that had kidney stones and also had children. Say that child birth doesn’t come close to having kidney stones.
The next worst thing that I experienced was food poisoning. A few of us got sick after eating at a fast food restaurant. Took several days to recover.
As for actual sickness. I have been lucky on that front and don’t catch things too easily,20 Reply

@JackCarter You are the only person who had the concern to say a Get Well Soon among all other opinions.
Salmonella poisoning from chicken I got from a restaurant in Florida. I was sick for a full week. Couldn't hold anything in my stomach. Lost 11lbs in 1 week and I was already skinny. I was so thankful the day I finally held some jello and crackers down.
00 ReplyEpidemic parotitis (mumps) I'm glad that this was a one-time disease, because I don't want to experience such pain again.
50 Reply1.9K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. I don't remember what it was, but it was well before covid. But I had a real hard time breathing and I lived alone. I remember being pretty sure that I'd end up suffocating in my sleep.

+1 yA hangover, but that could’ve been prevented lol. I don’t get sick… I have a really strong immune system.. if I catch anything, my body fights it off when I’m sleeping because I’ll wake up soaked in sweat but that’s prolly once every 2 years
