I have always used a Female. My mother always took me to a Female. I don't see any problem with a Male it's just what I have been raised doing.

Do you think it is wrong for a Male to be a Gynecologist?

Are there specific motivations for wanting one over the other?

all my gynecologists have always been male, none have ever seemed perverted, none have ever made me feel uncomfortable.

only now do i hear stories about women who have had bad experiences with such people who alleged assaulted them but those stories are a small number compared to the amount of females to go see gynecologists around the world that never had such negative or traumatic encounters.

when i was 21 i went to get a pap smear because my mother and sister insisted that i should get one because EVERYONE needs to get one at least every year and blah blah. I felt no pain and had really ZERO reasons to go do that.
i had previously had 2 before that, when i was 17 and again when i was 18 and nothing ever showed up wrong with me and i had never had anything concerning any health issues there or anywhere, but my mother and sister said i HAD TO! so they took me..

when i was there, this time it was a female doctor gynecologist, they discovered through interrogation that had never had sex and was infact still a virgin. so this lady REFUSED to do me a pap spear, stating that there was NO reason for her to do one one me since i was not sexually active and had never had anything in my vagina.

i told her i've had 2 pap smears before this when i was 17 and agian at 18 and the doctors also knew i had never had sex and i was in fact still a virgin then as i am now and it was done

even after telling her that she stated she would NOT do it.

i of course didn't want to do it to begin with but i thought she was an ignorant doctor as anyone can get infection or worst cancer there even without having sex, but anyway she refused and said she would not dare "tear" me for something that didn't need to be done.

her words stayed with me and left me thinking if maybe the male gynecologist was not supposed to go through with the pap smear also the both times it was the same doctor, and he knew i had never had sex etc.

he was an older man and was always nice.

I've NEVER had a pap smear since then and i'm 38 years now, and i've never had a UTI that i've know about, like my brother's girlfriend is always complaining about her pee hurting and burning and even has to go to the ER to get it treated, i've never experienced any of that in all these years and i've never had pain or any kind there or smell or itch etc.

when people find out i've not been to any doctor in alllll these years they get this retarded look in their face as if i'm so dumb and seem defensive when i say if i don't feel sick why should i go? and they say to "PREVENT" ... i find that ridiculous, I bet five million dollars if i had been going every year as they say, they would have found not one but many things "supposedly" wrong with me that they "supposedly" PREVENTED from getting worse where i'd have to be taking madications for which would have then led me to get something else and like a train i'd be visiting the doctor regularly like all the zombies that do so.

if i feel sick to the point i see my body can't fix itself, THAT's when i can go to a doctor and find out what's going on. Our bodies are the best doctors, if i ever did have something that i was not aware of, my body did it's job to cure itself, had i gone to the doctor they would have given drugs to prevent my body from doing it's job that would have likely lead me to develop OTHER health problems. nobody will ever convince me of the opposite. the whole entire health care is a money system. I do believe they help, like if i get run over and break a leg or fall down the stairs and need help etc, but for the most part they are just a money hungry system that NEEEEEED you to go even when you're not sick. 🤡

i went overBOARD! the point to all this, I don't prefer one over the other but based on my experience i do feel males who are not perverts do a better job.

My wife always preferred a female gynecologist and my daughters prefer a female gynecologist they just feel more comfortable
I was assigned a female urologist a few years ago, and I did not feel comfortable at all.

There is nothing wrong with a male gynecologist or female urologist, but not everyone is going to feel comfortable

Good question because this is something that a lot of people wonder about. I recall surveys in the past (not on this board) that seemed to suggest that most women prefer a male gynecologist. It will be interesting to see the results here.

I just go to a female. I once had a male when a young adult but he pissed me off when he dismissed my concern of painful cramps. He didn't believe me when I described the severity of my cramps. So I told him when he grew a uterus and had a period he could tell me about the severity of my pain. Then I stormed off slamming his door.

After that needing a person who understood me I just stuck to women gynecologist.

My gynecologist is a male. He’s the only one I’ve had. My mom has had both male and female gynecologists over the years and she says that in her experience, the male gynecologists have been more gentle and actually more sensitive to her concerns. She recommended that I seek out a male gynecologist.

Now, I'm being seen by her male replacement.

I'm not uncomfortable with him or being seen by a male Gynecologist.

Fortunately, I haven't noticed any "anomalies" in the way he practices during the visits when he saw me.

No, it is not wrong for a man to be a gynecologist. That is like saying it is wrong for a female doctor to give a man a prostate exam or check for testicular cancer. It all depends on your preference. I am a man and if I am going to have a doctor looking at my personal areas I prefer that it be a woman doctor. It's not because I am going to get turned on or try to do anything x-rated but I feel a lot more comfortable having a woman around those parts than I do another man. The same goes for a massage. Some men prefer to have a male masseuse; I personally will not get a massage by anyone other than a female masseuse. It does not matter her body type or skin color, but it must be a female.

When the first female gynecologists started practicing in the late 50s and early 60s, they actually struggled to get patients, because most women refused to use them, having only had male doctors for generations. Things have come a long way since then, clearly, but not as far as you might imagine.

Female doctors overwhelmingly specialize in either OB/GYN or Pediatricians, with GPs still only less than 30% female and under 12% surgeons.

I think it’s really weird for a man to want to be a gyno, I mean as a woman - these female ob/gyns should have a much better understanding of the inner biology of a woman right. But I heard from friends who are doctors that gynecology is one of the “easiest” specialty/field that you can pursue as a doctor. In the past, there was also a lot of skepticisms surrounding female doctors and their competency which is probably why most females prefer to go to a male ob/gyn.

From my POV, whether it is a Gyne' or a general surgeon, I prefer a woman doctor and have had both men and women MD's and I personally prefer a woman. More intuitive, more sensitive to sensitive things

My wife's gyno is a guy, and my urologist is a girl. It wasn't intentional, but both were in-network for insurance and came highly recommended.
