Short distances do count yeah.

If very short distances count, I'd guess within the last 2-3 weeks. Possibly less than 2 weeks.

My limiting factor is my knees. So running more than a short distance is out of the question. By short distance I mean anything from 50-200 steps at a time. When I go for walks, I alternate between short jogs and walking. I start with 50-100 steps, then walk for a while to see how my knees feel. If they feel OK, then I'll jog a little further after walking for a bit. Then repeat. On a really good day I might do as much as a half mile total - but that much is getting pretty risky for my knees and I may regret it.

I don't know how far I could run continuously if I really had to. I've never tried it - well not for several decades anyway.
