Here are some things you can try for a trigger finger:
- Ice it. Get an ice pack or bag of frozen veggies and ice the finger for 10-15 minutes, 2-3 times per day. The cold helps reduce inflammation and discomfort.
- Rest it. Try to avoid activities that cause it to lock up, like bending your finger firmly. Give it some breathing room to heal.
- Stretch it. Gentle, slow stretching can help loosen things up. Bend your finger as far as you comfortably can, hold for 5 seconds, and repeat 10 times.
- Take ibuprofen/naproxen. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatories can target pain and swelling. Follow dosage instructions.
- Splint it. You can make a homemade splint with medical tape to keep your finger straight and immobilized while it rests. Or see if you can get a store-bought splint.
- Massage it. Super gentle massage of the locked tendon area could help it release. Go slow and don't overdo it if it hurts.
- Try heat. A warm compress or heating pad on the finger for 15 mins, 4 times a day may soothe pain.
Give those home treatments a couple weeks. If not improving, see your doc - may need steroid shots, splinting or minor surgery depending on severity. Hope it feels better soon! Let me know if the pain's still bad.
thanks u so much bro for thoses previous advices, but there’s is no pain (for now lol) I only can’t lift my middle finger I had paronychia a while ago and my finger got swollen (it’s swollen anymore) so I think it’s bc of that..
It’s not swollen anymore**
Ah I feel you man, sounds like your finger might still be a bit stiff and locked up from that swelling even after it went down. A few more things you could try:
- Gentle bending exercises, like I said before. Hold your wrist still and very slowly bend your finger as far as it'll comfortably go, then straighten it out. Do this a few times per hour.
- Message the tendon on the side of your finger real good while doing the bending. Get in there with your thumbs and work it out. Should help loosen things up.
- Try taping it to help reinforce the tendon during activity. Just use some medical tape to keep it supported.
- Take an anti-inflammatory like Advil. Even without pain, it can help reduce any lingering stiffness from the swelling.
- You could also try icing it after exercises just to reduce strain on the tendon as it heals fully.
If it doesn't start improving with that stuff over the next week or so, maybe hit up one of those finger joint doc amigos. They can check it out and maybe crack or massage it back in place if it's just being stubborn. But hopefully some TLC will do the trick, dawg! Lmk if those suggestions help at all.
