My mom had breast cancer so would there be a chance that I could get breast cancer too?

My boobs hurt when I touch them sometimes. I am currently PMSing but still. My breast feels tender and I have a tiny mole on it. My back hurts a bit and I’m tired. I think it’s cancer and my mom died from breast cancer! Will there be a chance that I get it too? I’m too scared to find out but it’s worse if I don’t know. I think I’m dying. I’m only 24 going on 25. There’s not much history but one of my older cousins had breast cancer and kidney cancer but survived. My mom wasn’t so lucky.

Some types of illness are hereditary. For example, my grandfather had diabetes, and I was just diagnosed with it not long ago. I know it's scary to get tested, but that's the only way you'll know for sure. Just because your mother had cancer, that doesn't mean you'll get it. You should still get checked out in case and think about it like this... the sooner you get checked out, the better chance you have of maybe getting rid of it if you di have it. It's always best to catch cancer in the early stages because some cancers are curable.

If you have a good friend, you could take them with you to the doctors. A good support system goes a long way. When I was diagnosed with diabetes, my blood sugar was 1462 because I waited too long. The doctors told me if I would have waited one more day to go to the ER, I would have died from diabetic shock.

I had an aunt that had breast cancer and luckily, she had it caught in early detection, and had the proper treatments. I believe Mary Tyler Moore also had it, and she was able to take care of it from early detection. Please don't wait until it's too late. Doctors can explore options with you if you do have it. You could be fine too, but you'll never know if you don't take care of it now. I hope this helped!

The best prevention is early detection & statistically one in eight women are at risk for developing breast cancer & believe it or not men can get it breast cancer too however our chances are rare & less than 1%. My mother had breast cancer & my friend has it & my mom keeps telling my sisters & other women to get checked yearly.

Don’t be a statistic, be smart & go get checked out.

My mum had it over a year ago. It was spotted by a radiographer during a routine mamogram. It was very small, and so far, not returned.

If you think it is, go see a doctor as soon as you can. It does need to be caught early.

My guess is that you are fine. We all panic over aches and pains.

Yes. Breast cancer can be hereditary, your best off speaking to a doctor if you have concerns. Some people opt for a mastectomy if they have a particularly high risk.
Are you sure your not pregnant? One of the first signs with my OH was tender breasts.

There is a genetic predisposition to the disease. There have been genes that have been identified to be indicators of breast cancer. Talk to your doc and get tested. If you have one of the genes you can make sure that even if you get it , you will get it in its early stage when it is most curable,

Aww relax anon, I don't think you are dying but I think you should get checked out if you are scared, my mother also had cancer and she fought It, I believe everyone has a somewhat high chance of cancer considering there's cancer for everything in the body basically, bones, lung, brain, etc you name it

HOWEVER, what you should do is get a genetic test for the "BRCA" gene. There are a lot of genetic predictors now. My wife had breast cancer and we are lucky; it was DCIS Stage 0, but she got a DMX anyway.

I think you're over-emotional from the pms hormones. Just make sure you get a breast exam from the doctor regularly and talk to them if you ever notice a lump. You'll be fine.

Getting genes do cause an increased risk of heart cancer. You might want to be screened for that. See a physician.
