Would you like to see Magic Mushrooms legalized?

In Massachusetts there is a ballot question to allow the possession of magic mushrooms and other psychedelic drugs. The proponents are people who will make millions from this, the state will get tax revenue from the sale. They push the therapeutic value and claim it will not be for retail sales.

I grew up when these drugs were very popular. I watched people change in ways that were frightening. Even kids that only used it a few times seemed different. They were somehow diminished. To me it looked like a chemical lobotomy. I thought it made them docile and they thought that they were enlightened. These drugs all but disappeared during the 1990s I assume it was because so many people had problems after using them. I think we have enough zombies in this country.

The big difference is that now there’s the concept of “micro-dosing”, taking small amounts to hopefully open neurological pathways for exploration, rather than just taking a bunch and seeing pink hearts, yellow moons, orange stars, green clovers, and blue diamonds.

I had a buddy in college who was a fan of the latter. One time he bought an ounce of them, and we all took some and had a crazy night. Fair enough, but then I went back over the next day and this dude is putting together another peanut butter and shrooms sandwich, lmao. He’s like “what’s up, guys! You want to trip again?” and we’re all like “uhhhhh…. thats more like a once-a-year kind of thing.” This dude just tripped sack for like a week in a row, solo, it was wild, lmao. BUT…. in fairness, he’s one of the biggest successes of our friend group. Really smart guy, great job in IT, nice house, great family, suburban life like you read about. But he would still just eat an eighth of mushrooms at 50 years old without thinking twice about it, although his wife is from China and pretty strait-laced. She’s keeping him inside the lines, for a cool 20+ years now😂

I can say the same about the guy studying it, but he’s more about taking small amounts and “opening his mind.” He seems to feel it’s been beneficial. And he usually was passing on full-fledged recreational mushroom usage in or younger days.

I don’t know…I voted “yes” on the referendum. I mean, we sell alcohol FREELY, and it’s just seen as this ubiquitous social lubricant, with arguably ZERO benefits, but it’s a HUGE industry. Cannabis, and now possibly psilocybin, have been researched more, and we’re moving past social stigmas of the past that may have been unwarranted, and again, CERTAINLY unwarranted relative to the accepted use of alcohol in our society. If done right, perhaps there are some benefits, and it’s worth looking into. Probably wouldn’t endorse people driving on it or anything like that, but I’m open to the conversation.

Maybe on a doctor/psychologist prescribed basis. It's important to understand what exactly those drugs do. They're the brain equivalent of running a pressure washer in a clogged pipe: what you get is whatever is sitting in that pipe

A whole lot of people SHOULD NOT take those drugs. They open pathways in your brain that can get extremely dark if you don't have a good mental state going into the experience. My mind was extremely dark earlier in life. I had plenty of opportunities to try psychedelics, but I chose not to because specifically because I knew that the drugs would bring out whatever was going on upstairs. In some cases, that could get dangerous.

I'm in a better place these days, so I'd be more open to taking the drugs in a supervised environment now. Most people have no business taking them.

To be blunt, I'm not in favor of any substance that changes the way people feel and act. I've never used any such substance and never will.

I don't think you have any understanding of the clinical uses of psychedelic drugs. I don't think they should be available to just anyone, but they are very useful in some conditions.

Yes they may be useful in certain cases but this law allows people to have grow operations in their homes and you can gift them to friends. I see plenty of use by kids in the future

Nope. Psychedelics - especially mushrooms have amazing success at treating PTSD, and microdosing mushrooms are more effective than antidepressants.
