Trending & News It’s normal to feel scared before surgery.
Anything involving your body and the unknown can trigger fear. Even calm, strong people feel it. What helps is trust in the medical team, asking questions, and focusing on recovery instead of the procedure itself.
Courage isn’t zero fear, it’s going through it informed and prepared.
I'm afraid that I won't ever wake up.
I guess it depends on the kind of shape you're in. If you just got in a car wreck and you're busted up you would love a surgeon to cut you open and put some plates on your broken bones, stich up wounds, inside and out, he'd be making you whole again or as much as possible. In a case like that you might be afraid of not having a surgeon.

I don't know! Other than for minor, common dental reasons, I've never had one.
Every surgery I've been too busy to really be scared. Also the closest people to me in my life are on the other side now. I'm not really dreading the end.
