Warm up and stretch beforehand. Periodic drinks of water during the run. Cool down afterward. Have some electrolyte drink afterwards, if the run has been over an hour or more.

Some people find that the quinine found in "tonic water" can help relieve cramping, although some people have reported side-effects.

Eat half a banana, leg cramps seem to have something to do with lack of potassium. Stretch well before and after the run. Dial back the length or distance that you run and see if that makes a difference.

@Staximus I was going to say the same thing lol. Also magnesium deficiency can cause cramps. Magnesium glycinate is helpful

It's easy not to think about but you need to hydrate more in the hours before you start running, and some more during your run if you can.

To relieve a cramp if you get them when you are running you might want to stop immediately and you het them after you might want to gently stretch the seizing muscle for 15–30 seconds. Lightly massage the area to restore blood flow. In addition to prevent future cramps by hydrating with electrolytes before runs, pacing yourself, and incorporating strength training like calf raises.

The science is that stretching does nothing. No material effect on cramping or injury. (I've read a study that found people who stretch like 20 minutes before and after exercise on average avoid 1 mild injury per year... so 40 minutes a day for 365 days to avoid 2-3 days out of action with an injury. Sure, if you're an elite athlete you'll take every extra training day you can get... for us mere mortals it's a dud tradeoff.)

Hydration and electrolyte imbalance are more relevant to manage.

That's pretty easy one to solve. Your body needs electrolytes. Salt, potassium, magnesium, sugar etc in order to process oxygen and make energy for your body. You need not only water but fuel for your muscles. I do a lot of distance running and anyone will cramp at distance if they aren't fueling their muscles.

Coconut water and electrolytes to start. You can squirt a little honey in your drinks as well before a run. Drink electrolytes an hour before a long jog.

    Welcome to running.

I run and run some road races a lot and occasionally have them also. A few suggestions. Warm up slowly, maybe start out by walking a little but. Stretching when the muscles are warmed up may help. Make sure you are hydrated, water is good, but in warm weather try a drink with electrolytes in it. Does eating before a run make it worse? Maybe try trail running because there is less pounding on the legs. If the cramps get bad slow down or walk and massage them. Feel free to message me but you can't do it on here until you are an Xper level 2. Does anything help relieve them at all?

Eat Meat. Drink 4 servings of Milk per day and eat one or two bananas per day.

Cramps and muscle soreness are caused by Potassium deficiency, not actual exercise.

Don't bother with fake Potassium supplements sold at the drug store. They are only 2% of daily RDA.

I love sliding into an Epsom salt bath. The minerals penetrate your skin. I guess you could also swallow pills

Add mineral supplements to your vitamin regimen. Your muscles are cramping, due to a lack of sufficient electrolytes, which having more minerals in your system will help alleviate. You might try drinking Gatorade or Powerade, as well.

Do you stretch or do any kind of warm-up? And are you also drinking plenty of water throughout the day, especially now that it's getting warmer out?

You can try low doses of magnesium. Please do not use the sentence with any medicine if a lot is good, more is better, and it takes a few days for it to start working

I've been having magnesium baths after exercise for a long time. It can work miracles in prevention.
    Magnesium helps the muscles contract.
