a lot of weight loss has to do with diet. so much more than people give credit for. I'm 5'6 and I was 120 pounds. I had a very low sugar diet 35g or less a day and within a two week period I had dropped over 7 pounds... I was small to begin with and I just shrunk so much more, I was amazed. now cutting out simple carbohydrates and having plenty around 70% of your daily caloric intake come from complex carbs. The primary function of carbohydrates is to provide energy for the body, especially the brain and the nervous system. An enzyme called amylase helps break down carbohydrates into glucose (blood sugar), which is used for energy by the body. simple carbs don't break down the same way and have a higher blood sugar level once they hit your blood stream=less burning of calories and more fat. examples of simple carbs include;Table sugar, Corn syrup, Fruit juice, Cake, Bread made with white flour, Pasta made with white flour, Soda pop, such as Coke®, Pepsi®, Mountain Dew®, etc., Candy, All baked goods made with white flour, Most packaged cereals.
some examples of complex carbs include;
Spinach, Whole Barley, Grapefruit, Turnip Greens, Buckwheat, Apples, Lettuce, Buckwheat bread, Prunes, Water Cress, Oat bran bread, Apricots; Dried, Zucchini, Oatmeal, Pears, Asparagus, Oat bran cereal, Plums, Artichokes, Museli, Strawberries, Okra, Wild rice, Oranges, Cabbage, Brown rice, Yams, Celery, Multi-grain bread, Carrots, Cucumbers, Pinto beans, Potatoes, Dill Pickles, Yogurt; low fat, Soybeans, Radishes, Skim milk, Lentils, Broccoli, Navy beans, Garbanzo beans, Brussels Sprouts, Cauliflower, Kidney beans, Eggplant, Soy milk, Lentils, Onions,Whole meal spelt bread, Split peas
also water and intense cardio are important. take your weight in pounds so 140. divide it by 2 so 70 and convert that to oz. now that means for the weigh you are right now you need 70 oz of water daily, so try to keep up with that. and intense cardio includes whatever gets your heart really pumping such as jumping rope, running, swimming. whatever. any questions feel free to ask, hope I helped.

I heard hot yoga(birkam yoga) helps alot. it makes you slim down I think...
your ht/wt sounds fine. If you want to drop weight it is hard to do with running alone because even a good runner has limited ability to elevate the heart rate for time. Cycling allows for elevated heart rate for much longer periods of time which is calorie consumption which is calorie imbalance, which is weight loss over time. I have been there. add weights, swimming, flexibility training to the running and you just became a triathlete, only missing the entry fee. Just sayin' elevated heart rate over time is it. The professional trainers on the site can weigh in. Back to the beginning, 5'7 and 140 still sounds nice.
It's your diet that will get you there. It's 80% of the equation, so if you're pressed for time, that's where you want to concentrate. Read "Fit for Life" by Harvey Diamond and follow the eating program - it's easy and you will lose weight, if that's your goal. For me, it has gotten me to my "set point" so as I continue eating healthy my weight has stayed the same for past 2 years. I got rid of all of my belly fat, which I never thought was possible.

At 5'7" and 140, you are a long way from being fat -- why are you trying to lose weight?
Running is boring, but it will always work, and as an ice skater, you are in shape for it already.
