Just two things:
1) Most people think that consuming less calories is enough. In reality, it isn't, because your body is adaptive. When you consume less calories, your metabolism slows down, and you burn less calories, so you reach the same equilibrium and don't lose any weight.
"Losing weight" means that your body can NOT get enough calories from outside, and has to resort to burning the fat you have. In a way, it implies mild starvation.
This means that you should raise your energy output (exercise) to the point that your energy input (food) is simply insufficient, and the body has to burn some fat to keep up with the amount of exercise you are doing.
That means, you should walk / run/ swim or do some other kind of exercise. Daily, if possible. Or in some other regular pattern that you think is appropriate.
2) People think that "losing weight" / "being in a diet" is just a temporary state. Thy think that they will lose wight for a while, and then will resort to their old, unhealthy habits and somehow stay thin.
WRONG
There is this concept called "homeostasis", which means that our bodies always try to reach an equilibrium. When you eat less and your body burns fat, it will reach an equilibrium after a while, and will stop burning fat. (If you balance your diet / exercise well, hopefully this equilibrium will be at exactly 60 pounds below your current weight.)
If you resort to your old habits after this point, and eat / exercise as often as you used to BEFORE you started losing weight, then your body will start gaining weight again, returning to the old equilibrium, and you will end up regaining the 60 pounds you have lost.
You should understand that anything you do to lose weight right now HAS TO be a PERMANENT life change, in order for you to maintain a lower weight.
As long as you keep these two important points in kind and act accordingly, I don't think there's much left to inhibit your progress.
P.S. Did you know that almost none of the popular "diets" are more effective than one another? They might be different, but they all do the same thing: Reduce energy input. So, don't worry too much about which one you choose to follow. Like I said, they are ALL the same (except for some extreme ones).

I did this. Reduce your intake of sugars, starches and carbohydrates to as close to zero as you can. Lean meat and greens and a single slice of toast a day is your new diet. Cut out alcohol and sweetened beverages. Walk 2 miles per day. It'll happen
Hi ! I am no expert so my advice may not help you or it may, I have no idea lol. I am 5'6'' and used to weigh 145 lbs. That is considered a normal weight, but I did not like how I looked. All my weight goes to my hips so I had very large love handles, and hated them ! Currently I weigh 125 lbs. I did this with no exercise. What I did was I watched what I eat. That meant NO fast foods, NO sodas, NO soft drinks, NO chips. All healthy. Many salads! I used to get a big salad that probably had the same calories as a whopper, but it was healthy! I drank water and green tea, and it really did help me lose the weight within a year.
Well for starters it will be nearly impossible for you to lose that much weight in that amount of time. You should aim to lose a couple of pounds a week. And don't give up if you hit a plateau or don't lose as much as you planned...the most common reason for diets/exercise programs not working is people give up too quickly. It is hard work and takes time, results won't come immediately.
p.s. I think you should probably aim for 140-145...it would be a healthier weight for you to be at than 120.
