Trending & News Based on extensive research and exhausting interviews with the head designers of all major treadmill brands, I have come to the conclusion that yes, the caloric loss is indeed accurate--and by carefully examining the results and subjecting them to an array of statistical tests...it is my conclusion that they measure relatively evenly based on mathematical formulas.
Your better off with something more involving than a treadmill. Something other than just jogging in a straight line.
Soccer is continually rated as one of the best activities for exercise and circuit training is up there as well. But any sport is gonna do more than a treadmill.
It's "in the ball park." The only truly accurate way to measure calories burned while working out uses a heart rate monitor and has your height, weight, age, and gender taken into consideration.
one thing I do know about using a treadmill is that after I go for a run I'm still burning calories (it takes a while to cool down) so if you want to take that into consideration with how many calories you really are burning during your workout and after. I find most treadmills to be pretty much the same in acuracy.
For an easy way to calculate multiply your weight in kilograms by the amount of kilometres you have travelled (sorry I don't know the pound/mile alternate). I.e. if you weigh 60kg and go 1km, you burn 60 calories. Same for walking and running :)

These calorie indicators are meant to be only approximate...it depends on your level of fitness exactly how many calories you'l lneed to do a certain routine.
they're accurate if you specify your weight. Otherwise nope.
Its usually a rough estimation especially if you don't add your weight and age into it.
They are no accurate at all... It may tell you that you burned 600 calories when you may have burned 250...
Playing basketball will burn more calories than running on a treadmill.
not all that accurate , my heart monitor is always reading about 300 less calories burned than the treadmill .
ranges from mildly inaccurate to extremely inaccurate
Not accurate because you need to factor in your age and weight.
Not very.
Especially if they don't ask weight.
It's a rough estimate I think
Not at all
