My friend said she's still fat, despite going to the gym for months?

Well as the rest said if she's not eating less and healthier she can't really expect any results, I'm talking from my very own experience here, at first I also thought exercising will the do the job, but it didn't you need exercise and proper eating, which basically makes up a whole new lifestyle for some people :) Also, you should really check what kind of exercises she's doing for how long and how many repetiotins. you see not everything's for everybody,

You need a routine that fits your body and it's needs, you shouldn't push yourself too hard or even worse not push yourself at all. you need to combine effort and comfort zone in a healthy balance with exercises for ladies that fit your body's requirements.

And by the way do NOT do exercises that guys do and do not listen what exercise ideas guys have unless they are trained professionals. Again speaking from my own experience it does not go well and guys usualy have no ideas what a girl needs and what her capabilities are. DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM! XD

She needs to eat right too, but even then, sometimes people just don't lose weight. Assuming she's not morbidly obese, a bit chubby might just be her natural body type, so her body is resistant to going out of that range.

If she consumes more calories than she burns, then she won't lose weight.

When it comes to weight loss, diet is far more important than you think. Not starving yourself, but eating the right amount, and the correct food groups.

Chances are, she has been eating the wrong things in the wrong quantities.

She's got an elbow problem lifiing too many candy bars or milk shakes...you need to conrol your diet FIRST OF ALL to lose weight, Working out is healthy for you, but most people won't lose weight working out without a disciplined approach to their diet.

I've been starting to hear that weight loss/ just being healthy starts in the kitchen. It's around 70% at the gym, and 30% in the kitchen... No, this doesn't mean she can only eat celery, but maybe small changes, e.g. cut soda, excessive drinking (if she does drink -- or at least she could switch up her drinks to ones that are not as calorific), portion control, etc.

Fat loss isn't always counted as weight loss because of muscle gain and water weight fluctuation. What is more important is what your weight consists of and how do you look. She could also have a bad diet and nothing is more important than diet when it comes to losing fat. Oh and is she really working out, breaking a sweat or just sitting by the machines and doing a couple reps with a low resistance?

I see too many girls that sound like her.

They move at a snails pace on any piece of cardio eq. Some are even able to talk on the phone.

If their using weights it's at the lightest setting or are doing the exercise improperly. They're just going through the motions That's not really going to get it done. You're at the gym using your time so WHY not put some effort into it & get the most benefit you can while you are there.

Diet also plays a big role.

Because weight and fat are two different things. You need to use a scale that measures BODY FAT PERCENTAGE. Weight includes water, muscle and lean body mass. If she goes to the gym, chances are she is gaining muscle.

it could be that she spent more time in the locker than doing exercises :D.. maybe her appetite increases and she eats more.. even though she's going to the gym she should still be cautious on what she eats =)

Has she been tested for an under active thyroid? If her metabolism is low, calorie intake vs. excercise really won't matter.

It could be the way she eats or yhe way she works out

Working out will tone and is associated with keeping fat off.
