Bah stop worrying about it man. You shouldn't be trying to lose weight when you're not even in a fat or obese zone.
If you're trying to lose weight quickly and then it just comes back you need to stop. Just let happen what comes may.
You say you don't want to be 150 but yet you're 5'5 to 5'8! 5'5 at 150lbs is bad? Stop reading the tabloids and the garbage.
Get into body building and build some muscle or something, put that weight gain to good use or something. If you don't want that, then just eat regularly don't do the crash diets ect... If your body is gaining weight it's for a reason, don't hurt yourself by trying to stop it unnaturally.
Are you keeping track of your calories? Do you weigh yourself at the same time each day? I weigh myself first thing in the am, after my morning pee, that way, I can compare it to the weight on the other days at the same time. If you eat a lot of bread/carbs, that will def cause you to hold some extra water too.
That is a large weight fluctuation. a 10 pound fluctuation isn't bad, but a 30 pound fluctuation is major.
Try keeping a calorie diary so you can keep an eye on your food consumption. It sounds like to me that when you are down at 120, you are probably really strict with your food intake, yet when you throw caution to the wind is when you are up at 150. Maybe try striking a balance betwen being overly strict and carefree. try focusing on being health conscious.

A person shouldn't lose more than 2 lbs a week. it's unhealthy. I'm at 155ish. I fluctuate between 155 and 150. I'm 5'11.you should have at least 2,000 calories a day.
It is a large amount. It could be a late growth spurt ? Some people start to experience weight shifts before they grow.
30 pounds is a huge amount! What about of time are we talking?
7 pounds is a more reasonable fluxuation. Most people go up and down by about 2-5lbs.
Sure you have more problems then it seems ... If you are not sure about your height
