Mother keeps telling me I don' t act like a girl

Question

My mom keeps telling me I don't act like a girl because (these are the reasons she listed off to me)

1.I don't care what I wear(says this when I wear sweats and a hoodie like 3 times a week)

2.I hate going shopping for clothes (been wearing the same stuff for years)

3. I just recently started wearing some make up I don't go all out like I put on blush (because I am so freaking pale) and some eye shadow and that is it.

4.I know I am a tomboy like I am not super girlie I am not afraid to get down in the mud or fishing she has a problem that I like to fish when I am camping..

5.I don't like bags or purses I use this tiny bag that fits my wallet and that it is I won't buy a big one due to I don't care to carry one or keep stuff in it.

6.and that I stick to dark colors I do wear pink sometimes but I stick to grays,whites,blacks and blues but I do wear other colors it is just because I hate having to match sh*t up I rather spend less time getting dressed and ready.

So I was wondering is that so bad? I mean there has to be girls like me out there obviously I do girl stuff I will walk around a mall with friends I just won't buy anything due to I won't drop 50 dollars on a shirt and have it be ripped /stained (if that happens) in like a few months so I stick to walmart and platos closet (get the same brand stuff for like 4 dollars) so yeah what do you guys think?

You sound like my little sister and I'll tell you - it's a very sore, painful issue to me, I don't want to be ashamed of what my own sister is like, she's often rude, "in your face", sometimes she wears torn, dirty clothes and sometimes she even doesn't want to dress up for special occasions like for the end of school year, she talks bad about girls who do dress up, that they're "shallow", "stupid" and so on, once she even said after being unaware what she gonna do after school, that she's going to "marry some rich guy only for his money" - it struck me like a lightning, how my own sister could be that way! Few days after she started to cry because one of her classmates spread nasty rumours about her, I wanted to help but something stopped me, I even was thinking: "She deserved it, leave it be", OK, that's a little too off-topic..

Your mother is ashamed of you, the way you are hurts her. Try to understand that. One day you will have kids too (presumably) and even if you won't - you'll forever be a daughter to your mom.

I totally agreee with you. it's boring if everyone dresses alike. I like people who aren't afraid to be different!

your mother generalize all girls. I love shopping. I love buying clothes and bags. but, its not something that all girls must do, is it ? according to your points, it seems I am less tomboy than you but I respect tomboys. I sometimes play video/PC games too.

if you wear denim and tank top or t-shirt everyday, it is still better than wearing the trash called thong just to look hot. if you care about what you wear and what you look, you choose proper clothes. beauty and efficiency are both considerations. not just beauty. that is why I don't buy thongs. especially the expensive ones.

I'm like that , I would rather wear comfy clothes that are reasonably priced. I don't tend to wear make up unless I have plans for the whole day. And I don't carry a purse/bag  because I lose everything so I'd rather not lose everything at once. Not too many girls are like us. But guys will still like you. You don't have to be Barbie for guys to find you attractive.

You sound exactly like me :) I was lucky enough to be born to a tomboy mom though. My grandma wants me to be girlie because "then guys will like me" but my boyfriend seems to like me just fine haha. Keep it up.
