Teeth whitening: yay or nay ?! are there side-effects?!

so I'm talking about professional whitening not at home kits. some dentists say whitening is OK, some don't recommend it. some that got it said they are happy with it, some that they regret it.

i know a bit about the process and I know there are multiple types of lamps: UV, LED, Plasma.

What interests me is if they all mean the same or if not, which one is better?!

have any experiences about teeth whitening or some info that could help me ?!

really want my teeth whiter... but I don't want to ruin my teeth.

I use a product that I found on the internet. One of those gels you put in trays. I chew tobacco, so I use it twice a week. I gave a sample to my friend & Dentist. He said it was fine. I specifically asked if I could ruin my teeth in any way. He told me no. I also asked the hygienist, she also told me the gels are safe & that my teeth are fine. There is no damage to the enamel surface.

I have been using this product for close to ten years.

Some people recommend baking soda & peroxide, those types of home remedies. Those are bad because they are abrasive. That will wear the enamel off of your teeth like sandpaper.

If you get a professional to do the whitening, it can actually weaken your teeth.

Get toothpaste whiteners instead.

I just use whitening toothpaste, that works a charm. Much cheaper than getting it professionally done.

They aim the lamps right into your mouth usually so it's not on your skin or anything. I would assume it's pretty safe to do but not regularly.

However, adult teeth aren't meant to be white, they actually are meant to have a natural yellowish tint.

I used these one time like 2 years ago, it made my teeth look AWESOME but not fake. And after that I just started using whitening toothpaste to maintain my teeth "white"

my dentist said it was OK that I used those and that they weren't gonna do any damage.

I avoid red wine, smoking, and any type of dark sodas...
