Are these parents immoral?

While their daughter has to recover from anorexia, they started a weight watchers diet. They bought a scale to measure the right portions for their diet, their fridge is full of 'low point' weight watchers food, they are constantly talking about the calorie content of food,... while they their daughter is trying hard to recover from anorexia.

Making dumb decisions and speaking without thinking? Sounds like it.

It doesn't sound like they're trying to have a negative effect on their daughter's recovery, but they may be unknowingly doing just that. If the parents aren't healthy, then it sounds like their decision is for personal reasons.

Even so, they shouldn't make a big deal about it around their daughter and should be stressing the difference between being healthy and having an eating disorder. It's okay to watch what you eat. It's not good to starve yourself though or to make someone think they should.

They need to watch how they act/talk and make sure their daughter knows that they are there for her during her recovery and make sure they don't do anything to set her back into feeling like she shouldn't eat a healthy amount of food.

Look at the flip side. Is it moral for the fridge to be stocked with food and the daughter to be eating plenty, while the parents need to be controlling their appetites and lose weight?

People do what they want. If the daughter with anorexia is smart and has self control, she will eat more and gain weight to get back to a healthy weight.

Is it moral for grocery stores to be stocked with delicious donuts and chocolates and candy and pies while so much of the USA is obese?

Personally, no. Is it a bit insensitive? Maybe, but I don't think it's immoral. If anything, it may be teaching about proper weight loss methods rather than simply starving themselves. Food portions are extremely important in weight loss as well as calorie content of the foods in their diet. People can still eat and lose weight, maybe that's what the parents are aiming to teach her.

anorexia isn't about dieting... lots of people diet. if it was about dieting then most Americans are anorexic.

You can still eat healthy while recovering from an eating disorder. After all it was the fatty foods that was causing any questionable weight issues to begin with . so I would say NO they are helping more than hurting.

No. I think if anything is could encourage HEALTHY eating habits assuming they're following a good diet.

I don't think so. She has to do what it takes. They have their life. And they probably want her to take conscience of this.
