How do I apply a large vinyl round to a large plastic egg, without creases?

I've tried just slapping it on there, slowly peeling the back off and sticking it on a little at a time, done the same thing but cut the backing in two so it would start stuck in the middle, and tried applying water with those previous applications. All were done with my fingers and/ or with a credit card to act as a squeegee.

The egg is about 10 inches tall and 7 inches wide, your typical Easter plastic egg, just giant. I'm trying to add spots varying from about 4 inches in diameter to 6 inches with vinyl you'd typically use with a circuit machine.

I can get some areas where it's a bit smooth but it just doesn't totally work out.

You are trying to cover a 3D object with Curve by a 2D Flat surface, no matter what shape you create it will leave imperfections. only 2D on 2D works.

However if you Trick the 3D Object into behaving Like 2D it just might work, because Higher dimensions can come into lower once, lower one's aren't allowed in higher once..

In Simple language..

Take that Vinyl, Convert it into a Very long Strip, or multiple strips that is like 1Cm Wide of less than 1% of The Eggs Rough Circumference..

Then, Cover the egg from one Side to another in a Spiral pattern, like a Christmas Candy cane...

This way, You will Treat the 3D Egg like a 2D object, The thinner the Strips of Vinyl the better the results..

Your question is the same issue of trying to make a flat map from the globe, the reverse of what you're trying to do. The simple answer is that you can't, without cuasing distortion.

The only way you can put the vinyl on the egg without crease in is to cut each crease and then overlap its edges.

This is a perfect example of how some problems are unsolvable, no matter how hard you try.

You can't. The topography of a 2D onto a 3D won't work in this case.
