So many of them are "Lose weight, exercise more, eat healthier, save money, get a job, get married/date, have children, get a new hobby, sleep more, etc."

What I think is flawed about "New Years Resolutions" is that the resolutions aren't specific enough and that they seem strong in the moment, as little as a month later that determination is often gone. Such as when you have a goal, then you don't achieve it. Then you give up and just think, "Oh I'll do it next year." That's not how a goal is done, and goals don't have to be set during the New Year, or any other special event.
Resolutions should also be more specific and detailed, with an amount of time and a plan. It should also be measurable. For example, if someone wants to exercise more, and they say, "I want to exercise more," they would be unlikely to achieve it. What they could do to make it more realistic is to say, "I want to run 2 miles 5 times a week for 20 minutes per session without walking." There should also be a plan.

Same old goals get boring after a while. Burnout happens. People quit and lack determination. It would be more interesting to spice up the stereotypical goals and try something new.
