our street (the one in which I grew up while in Mexico) would close the block entirely for that night, and all the neighbors would throw a big BIG party with lots of food, and junk food and candy, horror movies, games, gifts and what no...

it was the favorite holiday for everyone as neighbors and the one for which everyone would stay home and celebrate for the most of it, lol

Scary movies, spooky stories and self-made costumes! I’m a big fan of ghost tours too, but i don’t believe there’s a tradition associated with it. I toured “The Winchester Mystery House” two years ago near Halloween and it was awesome despite not being able to get into one of the late candlelight tours on Halloween proper.

We always did the "Great Pumpkin", after the kids cane home with thier bag of candy, we would allow them to pick 3 pieces of candy, and they would trade the rest with the Great Pumpkin for a toy or other present the next morning. Our kids never knew anything different and looked forward to the Great Pumpkin every year. When they got enough enough to know better, we still did the great Pumpkin except the gifts just got more expensive.
