Oliver Cromwell believed that we shouldn't celebrate Christmas because it's based on a pagan tradition and nowhere in the Bible does it ever say to!

So in 1647 he banned it -

PUBLICK NOTICE

and he decided we should go to Church on Christmas which is not in the Bible.

And read the Bible which isn't in the Bible.

Speaking as someone who's Irish on one side and mostly Irish on the the other, I think we should instead party like it's 1658 and put Cromwell's head on a stick. He's pretty much the consummate example of English-style well-intentioned utter assholery.

Maybe not a stick, though. Maybe should we should put a replica of his head atop the Christmas tree. I think both the Christmas AND the Yule celebrants could agree with that.

5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it.

I think if you don't want presents and don't want to gift presents don't do it. This holiday as stated is a pagan holiday. In America I believe there is really only 2 holidays we need to truly observe. Independence Day and Veterans Day. The rest were acknowledgements of persons, or made up so retailers could gain huge profits. Just be happy in life and enjoy everyday the same as before.

The idea that Christmas has pagan roots is a lie. No decent scholar says so. Many things Christians believe isn't explicitly in the Bible.
