Can I not eat things like this anymore?

I’m aiming to become slim. I went out to an ikea Christmas dinner party with my friends. I got a seafood tasting plate with salad and crackers, a salmon steak with mashed potato, dill sauce and some beans and a huge strawberry shortcake. I’ve only just become beautiful in the face from hard dieting and now I can fit into my tight dresses again, without splitting the zippers, or resembling an overstuffed kransky (big, fat, German salami sausage). I only had one forkful of the shortcake. Which was one of the most delicious desserts I’ve ever tasted, then I gave the rest to my friend to finish. Will I need to permanently avoid desserts like this cake, if I want to remain slim and beautiful? Or can I occasionally get away with it?
