All the big boozers I used to know would not drink on New Years Eve. The cops were all out looking for drunk drivers and there were plenty of people looking for trouble. Most of these guys would stay home.
New Year’s Eve and St. Paddy’s Day are the two “amateur nights” I think of. In my bouncing days, I was more bothered by St. Paddy’s Day because there was more trouble. NYE was ok, people were more likely dressed up and in couples, but I’ve always felt like the night climaxes too early. Like I showed up fashionably late to house parties in college at like 12:15, 12:30…. NYE, you’ve already missed the ball drop. Going out to the party earlier threw me off. I liked to work NYE because there was no FOMO, haha, I’d have rather made money on that night.

I was never much of a drinker and only drank on special occasions. I don't care much for beer but I learned to enjoy good red wines and occasional cocktails later in life. I wasn't into the club/bar scene, either.
In the 70s, from my late teens through my 20s, my friends and I did smoke tons of weed. We would drive around with smoke billowing out the car windows. It didn't impair my driving, though, and I never got busted for smoking and driving.
For close to 15 years, up to 2020 when people lost their minds over covid, my wife and I knew a couple who had a karaoke party every New Year's Eve. I would get pretty drunk at those parties because it loosened me up and I'm a happy drunk. But my wife would only have a couple glasses of wine throughout the evening and not get drunk, so she would drive home at the end of the evening.
There is no way I would ever drive drunk.
I only drink alcohol maybe 8 or 9 times a year, usually just a glass of wine with dinner. And it's very, very rare when I have enough to get drunk. It has to be a very special occasion. The last time I did was at the 2019 New Year's Eve karaoke party. In the uk the last Friday before Christmas is called black Friday or black eye Friday depending on where you live and there's a lot of proper drinking. As for new years eve I don't think you get any more trouble than usual since most spend it with family.
My SO and I celebrate New Years Eve at home. She usually goes to bed early, like usual, and I stay up and watch the ball drop in Times Square.
My fiancee have gone out to watch the fireworks downtown at midnight, but I don't drink if i am driving.
If you don't drink and drive, you won't get a ticket.
I've heard about drunk drivers on New Year's Eve. I don't drive and I always stay at home on this day. But obviously it's dangerous for those who drive.
That was smarter than but what would be even smarter would be to not drink on New Year's if at all. As a person that doesn't drink, I can't imagine getting to the point of passing out because of alcohol or any drugs. I kind of like being conscious.
There are always so many people who get arrested for drunk driving. I very rarely drink but I stay home anyway. Too many people get killed by drunk drivers
Does anyone remember Y2K? This was the quietest NYE ever.
