Is $1200 too much for my husband to give his sister as a wedding gift? Am I wrong to say it’s too much and comment about it to him?

Sister in law is on her second marriage and she’s only 25. Besides the point we have her 1000 on her first wedding, already feel
like we do a lot for her. She got divorced and getting remarried. Husband rented a car from turo for them which was 700$ and wants to give an additional 500$ cash. We share bank accounts and both work. We moved into a new house and she never even got us a house warming gift. Am I wrong to say it’s roo
much or should I just not get involved?

I feel like it´s legitimate to have concerns about it. But I can also see his point of view because for him he´s probably the older brother therefore he feels like he has to give her something for a fresh start.
So I think you both have legitimate reasons, because I´ve never been married I don´t know if it´s too much. But I probably act similar, because family is a different topic because it´s close to his heart that he´s willing to give her another chance.

If you weren't married, I'd say it's his call and if he can afford it and wants to, I'm sure she can use it, especially if she/they are paying for their own wedding? But being your married, his financial decisions affect the both of you (as do yours), so you have a right to share how you feel. But approach him in that way when to talk about it, otherwise his it will only get his defenses up and you probably won't get anywhere with it. Just talk to him calmly and share how you feel, that while you're all for a gift, maybe it's a bit much? Maybe you can come to a compromise where you'll both be happy.

I love my brother to death and I would give anything to him, thankfully my boyfriend supports it and feels happy we have such a bond.

Siblings (especially brother-sister) bond is the most special one in the world. Don’t feel bad for it, support him and be happy for him to be generous with his sister. Try to understand him.

If you work too you DO have a say. Usually, 2nd marriage weddings are quiet ceremonies and not like the first which are usually expensive. Tell him if he wants to give her the money that's fine, but then you get $1200 to spend on what you want to.

I personally dont support marriage in general, so i dont invest any money and if i was dragged into paying i would be pissed. Your husband drags you down with decisions like that i would be pissed if i were u. I hope u have like 10k in bank account then it wouldn't feel as much of drag but if u live drom salary to salary and this is all your savings ooh meen id be furious. He needs to learn better money management. I giess u dont have much on account if he throws money away like that.

I would say it’s too much, especially if she doesn’t do anything like that for you guys in return. I don’t think it would be rude to bring it up politely. If it’s coming from a joint account, you have every right to make a decision on the amount you give.

You should stop sharing bank accounts. You should both contribute to joint expenses, but the rest should belong to you as individuals. Then he can do whatever he wants with his money. Voila! No more fighting about money.

I would say it’s too much regardless if she didn’t get you guys something or not. People shouldn’t do things for others, expecting things in return. Because if that’s the case you’re doing it for all the wrong reasons. But yes I think he’s doing too much for her especially if the two of you gave her a grand the first time. A nice gift under a hundred would do fine, even under $50 would be fine. You need to talk to him. It sounds as though he’s the one who made the decision.

If it's coming out of a joint account you need to agree an amount that's acceptable to both of you. 1200 does seem like a large wedding gift. Maybe just give them a toaster.
