In a 2018 study that looked at sexual behavior of those between the ages of 18-44 years of age, it was found that less people are getting married compared to those in the past. One highlighted reason had to do with men not making enough money for women to consider marrying them.
Modern women were interviewed around campus and most wanted men to make at least 6 figures to consider them marriage material. With the average figure being 100k/year for men to be considered marriage worthy. In addition to this, most women in said interview were put off at the idea of being with a man who makes less than them. Now, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median wage for workers in the United States in the second quarter of 2022 was about $1,041 per week or $54,132 per year. Thus, men are expected to make 2x the median salary of your standard American to be considered marriage worthy.
