Traditionally the white dress and veil were used to signify virginity and purity in the wife. Yet it's rare to find a couple where the woman is a virgin. Therefore the white dress and veil have little to no significance to the rite of marriage. Also, I've found that women who get remarried after the divorce or death of their first husband, choose not to wear white a second time. The rationale is that they're no longer pure or virgins, so a white dress is no longer acceptable, yet it still is considered so for non-virgin women on their first wedding.

Unless the bride is really young, I really don't think anyone at the wedding is thinking, oh but she shouldn't wear white because she's not a virgin anymore. It's JUST a dress now. Traditionally it's white. No one is trying to fool anyone with any antiquated symbolic meaning associated with wearing white on ones wedding day. It's a wedding. Wear what you want and what makes you comfortable. For a long period of time in this country a lot of women simply wore their best dress, whatever color it was, to get married. No one cared about their virginity being associated with it, so meh.

For the most part, i was all about the white dress and was going to wear it irregardless of virginity. But about two years ago, i came across this gorgeous outfit that has had me considering dropping the dress and the color white altogether. But if I decide to still wear a white gown then I’ll wear this alternative for the reception
Well… the symbolism of virginity may no longer be the case (I suspect there are very few virgins at the time of marriage as you say) but the symbolism of special white dress and veil for a wedding ceremony still holds. It’s a tradition that has evolved and see no probs with it.
They scare the shit out of me. Whenever I see one, I see one undead bride. Like a ghost or something.
But at the same time, I like them as well.

Yeah that's people's personal decision if they choose to wear it or not
If you pay 1000 bucks or more for a single dress you wear once, at least you should be able to freely choose any colour you want.
I think the white dress idea is just Victorian, not very old at all. I see it purely as a style choice
They can still be used. It doesn't have to symbolize purity and virginity.
Because you are paying a substantial amount of money it should be whatever colour you want
