What Women Want for Valentines Day

Most will tell you that Christmas is their favorite holiday, maybe even New Years or the Fourth of July. My favorite, however, is Valentines Day. A day smack in the middle of a long, cold winter that celebrates everything cozy and warm. A day to honor and cherish the one person with whom you cannot live without. A day to hold hands, steal a kiss and openly convey feelings of devotion and love.

I lived through quite a few Valentines Days as a single girl. During these times, the best gift I received was a, "Be Mine" candy heart (you know the ones - little sugar candies in yellow, orange or pink) from my co-worker... who was married... and female. Despite the loneliness I was supposed to feel, I still found myself delighted by the celebrations going on around me. Instead of jealousy or bitterness, I was filled with excitement and hope.

This year, I am in a relationship with a man that I truly, madly and deeply love. He is my world and I cannot wait to use Valentines Day as an excuse to shower him with affection. As justification to pamper him with presents. And, yeah, I will admit, I am hoping that he does the same!

As a confessed Valentines Day junkie, I have taken it upon myself to outline what women want on this special day to make it easy on all the guys out there!

Get in the Spirit
Women all around the world prefer their man to readily and proactively participate in the holiday. Moaning and groaning or rolling your eyes at the mere mention of the words can completely ruin the moment and forever taint the memory.

An All Day Affair
Start the day by placing a handwritten poem or carefully selected card on her pillow. Send a bouquet of flowers to her office at lunchtime. Reserve a table at a romantic restaurant for dinner. Finally, exchange gifts in a living room with candles burning and her favorite music playing in the background.

Special Delivery
Flowers are an absolute must and they should be delivered in a public place in easy view of all her friends and co-workers. Depending upon the stage of your relationship you will want to select a single red rose amidst a handful of pink, a dozen red roses or bunch of her favorite flowers. The note should be short, sweet and sincere.

Gift Exchange
To do it right you will give two or three gifts. (Yes, this is in addition to the flowers you have already sent. I promised to make it easy for you, not cheap!) Give her something store bought that you know she will like. Popular items include jewelry, perfume, chocolates, gift basket, teddy bears and you get the idea. Also give her something that demonstrates how close the two of you are and how well you pay attention. Something only you know she wanted. Something symbolizing a shared memory. Simply put, something special.

Surprises, Massages, Movies - Optional
Ideas that add impact include any type of surprise (limo, horse and carriage ride, picnic in the park, etc.), warm bubble baths and massages with a caring touch and romantic movies either at her favorite theatre or in the cozy comfort of your own home. These are not included in the essentials of what women want for Valentines Day but they are all well received gestures of your love.

Get in the spirit, fill her day with heartfelt surprises, deliver flowers and give her something special to show how much you care. Set any doubts or worries aside and simply enjoy a day devoted to the love you have, the memories you share and the infinite possibilities of the future.
