I am thinking of buy one the iPhone I want on Amazon. It is for T-Mobile and is renewed. So, my question is, can I buy a phone from this company even though I pay my present phone through Metro (which is part of T-Mobile now)? I can call them and find out, though I would ask here first if someone knows. By the way, my iPhone was also bought through Metro. However their present deals are too expensive, and I'm finding some great deals on Amazon.

Phones come locked and unlocked. If they are locked, you are limited to the provider they are locked to. Unlocked phones can be used with any provider. Make sure you know whether the phone is locked or unlocked before you make a purchase, but you can buy unlocked phones on Amazon, Ebay and other platforms.
Yes, I see many that are "refurbished" and unlocked. The reviews are very good on these.
The question is Who is doing the refurbishing? You might find this article helpful: www.uswitch.com/.../
I found another company who sells the same phone I want, with a bigger GB (128) and it comes in "excellent" condition. It is supposedly compatible with my phone carrier. The thing is--can I use my old number and not hav ergo get a new number? I've sent a message to them. This company is called "reebelo" out in CA and is supposedly very reputable. The phone priced $100 cheaper than Amazon, and with free shipping.
Thanks for that article on refurbishing! I will read.
You can always port your number, so that won't be an issue. Yes, Reebelo does have good reviews, and does give you a 12 month warranty, so any problems should arise by that time. As with any refurbished item, you have no idea the reason it was refurbished in the first place, but you have no idea if a brand new item won't be a lemon, also. It sounds like you've done your homework. Just keep your eyes open.
Thanks
You're welcome.
