+1 yTurks are white Asian, with some exceptions.
White and Asian are not mutually exclusive. Israeli too are white and geographically Asian. So are many inhabitants of the former USSR.
Asia is located to the east of the Suez Canal and the Ural Mountains, and south of the Caucasus Mountains (or the Kuma-Manych Depression) and the Caspian and Black Seas.[4][5] It is bounded on the east by the Pacific Ocean, on the south by the Indian Ocean and on the north by the Arctic Ocean.
..
Geographical Asia is a cultural artifact, an imprecise concept causing endemic contention about what it means. In contrast to Europe, Asia is the largest and most culturally diverse of the continents in the seven-continent system.[9] It does not exactly correspond to the cultural borders of its various types of constituents.

To cut a long story short: there are many kinds of Asians, including white Asians.
And there is more than one kind of Turks too, from Continental Europe (Istanbul) to Uighurs in China:

#-in Turkmenistan, link
#- in East Turkestan (also Uighurstan, Eastern Turkistan, Chinese Turkestan), link
PLEASE,
STOP TRYING TO CLASSIFY PEOPLE ON SUPPOSED ETHNICITY OR RACE, , it's plain B.S.22 Reply- +1 y
Even more complicated when looking at languages : the Turkic languages constitute a language family of at least thirty-five[1] languages, spoken by Turkic peoples across a vast area from Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean to Siberia and Western China, and are considered to be part of the proposed Altaic language family. Turkish is a national term.. Turkey is a multi-ethnic country, but if you ask the Turks (Turkic).. minimum %55, max %70 people of the republic of Turkey are Turkic origin..
According to proto-Turkic graveyards, genetically Turks are R1a and R1b people.. someone said that Turks are Celt, you can say that Turks are related to Celt based on their R1b haplogroup. I'm Blacksean Turkish and descended from Turkic Cumans..
We Cumans are R1b-L23 people genetically, Celts are R1b too just like other White Europeans.. and being white is related to climate ;) Oghuz Turks are R1a people and
R1a genetic is high among Central Asian Turkic nomads, Iran-Afghanistani-Tajik-Pakistani-Northern Indian-Lebanese people.. Because they're descended from Oghuz Turkic mameluke empires like Safavids-Ghaznavids-Khwarezmians-Gurids[R1a] and Mongol/Turkic Mughals[R1b-m73]. You can look at the map of R1b-L23(Turkic Cuman) map on the google. People of the racial tribe of R1b-L23 are originally blonde with blue-eyes.
R1a and R1b are cognate to each other.
Ottoman and Seljuk founders are of Oghuz Turkic origin too.21 Reply- +1 y

+1 yWow look at these answers ha ha Just proves how uneducated, ill-informed and ignorant the majority of people are about the rest of the world. First off, your question does not make sense. "White or Asian"? I think you mean white or brown, or European or Asian. Turkish people, in appearance, are white. They can vary from having olive skin to even very very fair skin. There are a fair amount of blond people there also, and many people with green/blue eyes, although obviously this is not as common as brown eyes and hair. This is something people are surprised by when a person reveals that they are Turkish. Turkey is between Europe and Asia, but this does not mean that the people in Asia look typically Asian ie. they don't have Asian features at all. They look white, like the rest of Turkey, but have tanner skin because it's hotter in the east. A lot of people consider to be a European country, and they are in talks of joining the EU (although this so unlikely). Anyways, you can tell the other guy he needs to get his facts straight. Your friend is European. Hope this helps

Interesting article, thanks for that!
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yBoth of my parents are Turkish. If you're talking about how we look physically, we are white. I am porcelain skinned actually, when I don't have a tan. Most Turkish people are olive skinned though, very much like Italians and greeks. If you mean which continent it's in, it's part Asia, part Europe. The two sides are separated by the Bosphorus bridge. Your friend is right, the other guy doesn't know what he's talking about, since I assume he thinks Turkish people are brown. Not the case

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yturkey is in Europe as I'm sure you know. But I wouldn't call them white, I would call them middle eastern not cause of the location but cause most of them are Muslims and look like arabs. And I have noticed that turks sometimes write they are Asian and sometimes they are white, so maybe if you are from istanbul you are considered white while if you are from the Muslim parts of turkey you are considered Asian or middle eastern.

"Muslim parts of turkey"? Wtf are you talking about? Turkey is a Muslim country! While it may appear to be the most modernised and least islamic country in the world, it doesn't change the fact that it is recognised to be a Muslim nation. Also saying that "most " Turkish people "look arab", again, is complete bs. What are you basing this on? I've been to Turkey several times, and this is not true. Don't answer questions you know f*** all about- you're confusing people that don't know about it
Opinion Owner+1 yAnd before you comment and make an ass out of yourself there is a lot of Christians in turkey especially in Istanbul. you think just because you been there a couple times you know everything? Honey so have I and I am in Europe right now. You tell me to not answering this question cause I don't know what I'm talking about while you are the one that doesn't know anything about this. So would you prefer if I said Turks look like Germans? Or British maybe? Mind your own business.

They are a mixed people like most of central asian/middle eastern peoples. The Otoman Empire (Ottoman Turks) stretched from the Ural mountains to the plain of Turkistan of China. It's people's included the Turkmens, Uzbeks, Kazakhs, Mongols, Seljuk Turks, Tartars, etc. all of which were united by a common language, not a skin color. There was mixing between races in the empire to create what exists today. The are for the most part a cross between Mongoloid and Caucasoid major races.

İsn't true. Turkey is %80 turkish. Other are ethnic trash.
- +1 y
thank you for being the only person that actually read the question. :)
'white or asian' can't possibly be asking what continent turkey is in.
the easiest way to tell turkish from persian is which one looks a little azn.
+1 yTurkey is considered part of Europe, even though it straddles two continents. But, some modern day support dropping the idea of Europe and Asia being two separate continents, being that they are geologically a single well-connected landmass. At least Africa is separated by a tiny land connection, and North & South America likewise. But, that will never happen because of pride and jingoism on both continents.

+1 yWhite. The caucasus are actually very close to Turkey so yes, Caucasian. Although the mayority of the country lies in Asia, that does not mean people are ethnically Asian. Even indiginate Afghans are considered white.
20 ReplyFirst Asian isn't a color. Most Turks are white however skin color isn't why a person would be turk, it is because they are born in Turkey. Just like I'm a Canadian because I was born in Canada .

+1 yTurks are of Celtic descent, they're as white as I am. But they are asian, they're from the Asian continent. They're just not Mongoloid like Chinese or Burmese people

@ElijahCynicism
Turks are of Celtic descent? I'm not so sure about that. Do ou have a source? - +1 y
- +1 y
According to the link I posted below, some Celts would be of Turkish descent.
There's even more, According to some linguists, the Finnish, Hungarian, Basque and Turkish language and some languages spoken in Northern Russia would (could?) belong to the "Altaic languages" group. - +1 y
The Celts began in Turkey. I had found a map showing their origins and subsequent spreading across Europe, which I could find and provide, but it seems like you came across more or less the same information. I was really just using that as a bit of a joke - you know, because I'm Irish and that's where everyone knows the Celts are from, haw haw. I know it's a little bit of a stretch of the truth
- +1 y
Interesting about the Altaic languages though, that they're all connected
- +1 y
Nope. We are not mongloid. Mongols and turks are so different about ethnic. First, Mongols are yellow ( Like chinese peoples ) But Turks are white people.
+1 yTurks are white Asian, an long with Middle Easterns and Indians.

Oops I forgot Israelis.
- +1 y
Are Indians? I wasn't sure, I thought that land was Mongol for a long time?
- +1 y
@ Elijah Yes. India was ruled by Persians and Mongols for centuries. In fact their official language was Farsi for a few centuries before English. Genetically however they are white and not of yellow race, for a lack of better word. Nowadays however ethnicity, faith, geopolitics seem to determine color. An ignorant concept no doubt.
They're brown. But their ancestors were asians, as all traces of their (linguistic) origin point to the area deep within Asia.
13 Reply- +1 y
Uhm what? No, they're not brown. I suppose you think they wear turbans too?
- +1 y
I don't think Konnour has met many Turks. :)
I did meet many.

Opinion Owner+1 yThank you teacher.

Well, they *are*

I'm clearly of Caucasian descent but that fervour to divide people in white/Asian/African woud get me mad because it's based on superficialities like skin color. There is ONLY ONE Human race with different phnotypes.
Are Turkish people white?
