Thank you, that was a good laugh
Sometimes I wonder how gender labels came to be.
This ain't even an issue. Pick what you like.
It is an issue if, as women do, you have to pay the Pink Tax, aka, more money for the same products, just because a product is pink or is "made for women."
However, myTakeOwner, you are the end purchaser are still in the driver's seat. You CAN choose to spend, or not spend, accordingly.
Honestly? I suspect the Girly tool kit and the Girly workout gloves are seen as encouraging and even empowering by many ladies, or mothers of girls: "Yes, you CAN swing a hammer or do a punching bag workout and still be feminine!"
@Curmudgeon Um, no. A mother or father can encourage their daughter to do sports without this... well, good thing there's a pink helmet, or a pink bat for you. You can just empower them through words and through example. Wearing blue shoes does not make a guy better at basketball or want to play if he isn't into it. It just means he's wearing blue.
@myTake Owner I certainly agree.
However, if I learned anything in marketing class at MBA school, it is that psychological selling does work. In other words, the business is not instigating this; it is simply following a pattern.
If you want to see change, vote with your dollar. Buy the men's/normal version of stuff. The free market will change what we have if enough people want it.
Products are gendered as many girls and women demand it that way.
@Curmudgeon Well, in most cases it's contradictory.
"Yes, you CAN swing a hammer or do a punching bag workout and still be feminine!"
A woman who has manicured her nails usually isn't all too keen on damaging them by whacking other kinds of nails with a hammer. It is part of the established gender roles. When a mother tries to encourage her daughter to do something outside the gender role, the color shouldn't matter, otherwise she also encourages the gender role bias.
I totally agree🙌
