My take on „The World is a Wonderful Place, Yet We See Only Evil“ by bente2

I’ve seen the title on side of another article, before I’ve clicked on it. I was like „Biases, biases, oh, we have biases, brain perceive more negative things, there was studies.“ It was in singing-like voice in my head.

There are too many people, I believe you wanted to say. Especially the stupid ones. I’m sorry, please continue.

„People, that bring life to another human being.“ Well…we don’t really need that, it’s not like there is shortage of us. And…isn’t that just…normal biological function of female body? I’m sure it is, because…you know…life exist.

„People that protect other people.“ OK, so that implies, that there is need for protection →there is something to protect from. So… Do you see, how you defeating yourself? Please, tell me you do, I don’t want to explain it.

„artists and poets“ Like they are important. OK, now, hear me out. Scientists, researchers, developers (of all kinds), and people like this, those are the ones, you can thank for modern technology. What artists and poets objectively broth you? Sure, feeling when you see their art, I’m not arguing against that, but do we have better technology, which prevents unnecessary death? Last time I’ve checked…no.

And later on, you writing about it…so you are not entirely down the rabbit hole, that’s nice. :-) And I want to be one of those people. By developing software. I like to do that and our world is based on that.

„You know how everyone is always saying the old days were better? That's because they were.“ God, yes! Thank you! You did it! No, seriously, I was begging for this type of sentence in the beginning, when I was furiously typing about biases and perception. That one was for present day and reality of…you know…now. And you’ve gave me another example of bias. We tend to look at the past and remember the good things. But that doesn’t means, that the bad ones didn’t happened. No!, they surely did. And later on, you writing „you didn't hear or read or see all the terrible things happening around the globe“. OK, so…ignorance is now a good thing? That doesn’t surprise me that much, as it used too.

Yes, in the past, I was younger. Suffer from depression way more, than I do now. I didn’t know so many thing, I was socially awkward beyond measure. You think I’m that now? Well…you don’t want to imagine, how I was. But I got better. And I’ve discovered many things. And already, as kid with single digit age, I’ve realized one thing. How I’ll get older, I will have more responsibilities, it will be worst for me. In this regard. Damn, I was scared about it. When I’ve been told, that in lest than year I’ll get my ID, it was like…the worst thing that happened to me in that month. Everyone else look forward to sex and alcohol. And I was the only one, who was like „You fools!“ (In my head I’m like Gandalf, but in reality I’m…just not. I know, don’t worry). Your life will not be only about sex and alcohol, no, you’ll have your ID, you’ll have more responsibilities and have to care about more things. I was so scared of that.

Now, you might say, that bravo, I’ve just defeated my argument. You know what? You are partially right. The past times were different. I didn’t know. I didn’t know, how to do certain things, and therefore I was scared. So, I was right then, in that part, where I knew, that there will be more responsibilities. But I didn’t know, that my very essence will change. I will know, how to do things, and I will be able to use my new freedom to do things, what I like. So…I just changed. To more mature stage. How is that a bad thing? Because, to me that’s what you are implying.

„Nowadays it seems like almost all news we receive is terrible news.“ Yeah, that…is true. But…wasn’t it the same in the past? Do you know, why it’s the case? Imagine news like „Today, no car crush on these <long list besides moderator> roads.“ OK, that wasn’t particularly helpful. ← That’s something, what you might have in your head. You see…positive things are fine. And I encourage everyone to find more. Hell, check out Drunken Peasants on YT. I enjoy them a lot. But…in serious environment, we need to know, what’s wrong, so we can do what? Fix it. SO we know. If something works as it should, flawlessly…then…OK. What am I supposed to do with that? Like…staff here on GAG. They keep this site up and running. There was some people, who has to code this, test it and so on. I know thing or 2 about this. There was a lot of work. Does anyone just…get out of their day and thank them? No! Is here some article about how nice everything works? No… But it’s positive, right? That we have this space, which we can use for free. That’s kind of awesome, if you ask me (and, since I’ve posted one myTake, I know, that there is probably someone, who reads that. Hi, how it’s goin’?). And I’m not mentioning the obvious problem: it’s just not possible to report on all the neutral and good things.

Do you want more awesome news, which will make you proud of humanity? OK. Urge Chinese, Indian, Europeans and of course, Russian and USA’s governments to join forces and build base on the Moon. No, forget about Mars, Moon is closer, which would be more practical. Establish orbital station around the Moon, build base there. Start small then expand. That would make most people proud, I hope. That finally, we, as species, started to take things seriously.

„Cling to that which makes you happy.“ But…people already do that, right? That’s why we have entertainment industry.

„Become an influence and express yourself.“ Imagine, if everyone would do that. All of us. Or just… 2×10^9 people. Nobody could hear single individual out. And…isn’t it what’s already happens? Comment sections everywhere, damn, this site (little bit). I’m guilty of that as well, because look at me. I’ve actually thought, that my opinion to your article is so god damn important, that it deserves own article. How arrogant form me!

People are in some regards awesome, in most of them just mediocre, in some of them useless. Some people are top in their field, but unusable in others. OK, I think we all kind of get that. You might have argument when you’d say, that people don’t realize that enough.

In the title you’re saying, that „The World is a Wonderful Place“. OK. I…don’t disagree with that. I guess…to me it seems like overcompensation. World is. There are good, neutral and bad things. All of them are individually defined categories, on some of them we all agree. Like women and men are equal (or should be in society). And right here…Islamic world would disagree. So…you see it? World is, is probably the best description, otherwise, you must deal with all the nuances, in order to be as accurate, as you can.

I hope that this doesn’t sound, like I’m against you, Bente2 (interesting nick) or against positivity. No. This is myTake (See what I did there? :-D ) on…yourTake. I’m all for seeing things, as they are. And trust me, form me it doesn’t means much good (no girlfriend, forever alone, no job, still finding a will to search, but at least I’ve done some cleaning yesterday). But I will rather be in reality, than in sweet dreams.
