As with much in life, the way one sleeps is often times different from one individual to the next. What one person finds incredibly comfortable, another does not.
Sleeping on ones back is the best overall--UNLESS you have sleep apnea or breathing problems. Unfortunately a scant 8% of us actually do it, but it's best for us because it puts your head, neck, and spine in a neutral position which translates into meaning there’s no extra pressure on those spots which may cause pain in sleep or upon waking. The position is also a good one for nixing acid reflux.
Sleeping on ones stomach is the worst sleeping position because it puts undue pressure on the muscles and joints, which can potentially lead to numbness, tingling, aches, and irritated nerves. Yikes.
The most popular way to sleep for 41% of us is the cannon ball/fetal position. It can help improve your circulation and is great if you snore, but it can cause difficulties with breathing if you curl up too tightly.
Here are some common ways in which we sleep. Which do you prefer?
1. The Number 4
Whether on the back or the stomach, on leg is hiked up in the "4" position.

2. Skydiver
In this position, whether on you front or back, the person looks like they just jumped from a plane with arms and legs spread wide or they can be closer together. With arms above the head lying on the back, this position is one that almost all young toddlers comfortably sleep in.

3. Call me in my dreams
This person has a fist or a hand at ear level, and typically the legs are straight out whether on the sides or back.

4. Canon Ball
We all once slept like we were canon balling or what's more commonly known as the fetal position in the womb with arms near face, and legs tucked up under us. Some people still prefer this position very much even as adults.

5. Soldier
Also known as coffin sleeping if the arms are crossed across the chest, this person sleeps straight up and down in a supine position.

6. The runner
This person looks like they are in the middle of a fast run sprinting through their dreams with the legs both bent at an angle and arms at the sides or one up, one down, or both above the head.
7. The Yearner
These people sleep on their side with both arms out in front

8. Log
Sleeping on ones side typically with the hands down

9. Pond Skimmer
This person sleeps on their stomach close to the edge fo the bed with one or both hands dangling over the sides of the bed touching or skimming the floor.

10. I need a hug
Sleeping on ones side with the arms wrapped around oneself as if giving yourself a hug
