My Review on the book: Whiskey, Words, and a Shovel Volume One by R. H. Sin

This is a book of poems, written by a man. I picked this up when I decided to "stop by" Barnes and Noble but then six hours passed by. I have developed a big love for poetry and I got wrapped up in the poetry section.

I think the author does a really admirable job exploring love, lust, and heartbreak in this first volume. I literally read this book in one sitting. Read this to not feel alone in the human condition of love. A lot are simple poems but they speak volumes. I love when I'm reading and the words make me stare at a wall and think about things. This book made me do that many times.

My Review on the book: Whiskey, Words, and a Shovel Volume One by R. H. Sin

I love the way he writes and how he often speaks about "his muse" (aka his wife) He also speaks about being burned from past relationships, some erotic poems, loving relationships, abusive or toxic relationships, and depressing poems. The poems don't fit in a pattern. He also writes poems aimed to females where a man hurt them. Yes, Sin is a man, but his writings resonate with the reader. He's not telling a woman how she should live or how she should love. This isn't a man's plea to be loved or male privilege. This is a man saying that you deserve love. That we all deserve to be loved honestly and truly. He also writes extensively about how he was left vulnerable after a woman deeply hurt him.

My Review on the book: Whiskey, Words, and a Shovel Volume One by R. H. Sin

R.H. Sin uses simplistic words, very short and to the point, plainly stated where you don’t have to read into it that much searching for the meaning. Rather the meaning is what you perceive. This allows the reader the get the message that they need in that moment being. Whether that is closure or assurance that everything is going to be okay, or that heartbreak is only temporary. His lines are separated perfectly in a typewriter-esque font to make reading this seem more romantic. Its an old feel, yet in a modern way.

All in all, I think the way R.H. Sin writes is pure and from the heart, and even if you have heard some of these quotes or expressions before, reading them again only hammers home the fact that life is short and don’t stay in a relationship that harms you. No matter how hard you should try to move on, and find a true love. It may be a bit idealistic, but that is what poets do, create a world for the reader. r.h. Sin has a unique poetic voice in the natural way he writes and creates a world for us women, that feels safe and loving.
