What's the difference between Tomboys and Lesbians?

My friend ask me a stupid question, and I obviously said to him "Dude, tomboys are girls who act all boyish. And Lesbians, are girls who has an interests to other girls and not boys. What made you think they're the same?"... He kinda had a fight with a tomboy, and he said to her to just fuck off with a girl. Luckily he was younger than me, so I just punished him like a responsible adult. :)
So I wanna hear what you guys have to say about this. I wanna make a war between people. I'm also curious. :)

Tomboys are girls who don't fit traditional female gender roles. Lesbians are girls who may or may not fit traditional gender roles (outside of heterosexuality) but are attracted to other girls. Some lesbians are girly, some are tomboyish. Some tomboys are lesbians, some are bisexual, some are straight, some are some other thing. Being a tomboy is a matter of how you behave/what you like, while being a lesbian is a matter of who you're attracted to.

Yeah. He shouldn't be making assumptions about peoples sexualities, regardless of how they act. It's idiotic to stereotype a girl as a lesbian just because she doesn't fit traditional female gender roles, just like it's stupid to think a guy is gay just because he likes certain things that aren't traditionally male.

Well, the two aren't mutually inclusive. A woman can be a tomboy without being lesbian (or non-heterosexual), and a lesbian can be a non-tomboy.

What's the difference? The lesbian definitely is attracted to women, whereas the tomboy isn't necessarily attracted to women The tomboy is likely to display more masculine characteristics, however the lesbian is also capable of doing the same thing.

Tomboys enjoy masculine or boyish activities. Lesbians, on the other hand, are sexually attracted to other women. And despite stereotypes, do not need to be "manly". PS, your friend is a goof :-P

tomboys = they might be str8 or gay but they're main characteristic is that they are "one of the guys". they like more boyish stuff like video-games, sports, etc than other girly things.

lesbians = females who are attracted to females. just this.
