Small. I find big dogs tend to be independent, small affectionate.
My favorite dog was a male Chihuahua with a superiority complex. He would act kind of tough and like a king with a "tough guy" act (a little bit spoiled) when I took him on a walk.
If the big dog came close, he would immediately start clawing at my leg while standing on two feet, wanting to be held. I'd hold him until the big dog disappeared, at which point he'd want to be let down again.
It kind of unlocks those instincts of holding a child. It's hard not to fall in love.
Quick Oekaki doodle of my Chihuahua. He died some years ago, and I was traumatized as badly as when some of the girlfriends I liked most broke up with me (maybe even loved). I think I loved him a little too much and spoiled him a bit too much -- didn't distinguish him from a real person. I just loved that little guy.

Chihuahuas are big dogs in small bodies. Unfortunately, they're prone to many behavioral problems because their owners often spoil and coddle them rather than treat them like a dog. Last night, my dog got attacked by a Chihuahua and it was frustrating because I knew my 50lb dog would have been blamed if she'd fought back.
Anyway, sorry for rambling (I'm a dog nerd). Just remember all this if you get another Chi :) And I'm terribly sorry for your loss. That's never easy. - +1 y
@snowangle Mine was fortunately not the barking type or biting type. I disciplined him properly against those two, and he knew dozens of tricks. I just kind of spoiled him with affection. He always wanted to be held and I let him sleep in the bed with me.

@snowangle I also didn't neuter him so he definitely had that "big dog in small body syndrome", though his reaction to a big dog wasn't fighting or barking but running to me and wanting to be held.

+1 yI like bigger dogs more. At least medium-sized and up. The little toy dogs are just too nervous and yippy-yappy (at least a lot of them are). Bigger dogs just seem more down to earth to me. Which is part of why I like dogs so much in the first place.

Thank you for MH Guy opinion! :)
10.4K opinions shared on Other topic. I like all dogs. My first love was my small dog, and my second love is my big dog.
If I had to pick one to live with in my apartment during graduate school, I would pick a little dog (because they're cheaper to feed) However, if money wasn't an option, I would take my big girl with me and her mom, who is about 20 lbs lighter. <3
I like cuddling big dogs more. But I'm pretty indiscriminate when it comes to adopting them, it's just about pros and cons for that moment, namely, how much money I have to feed them and who I'm sharing an apartment with.
Lol, but I'm a big sucker for feist/chihuahua like dogs and droopy dogs :3

Small! I've always had smaller dogs. I've also been bit by 2 larger dogs in my life and so they kinda freak me out. I still think large dogs are beautiful and some seem sweet. But the energy difference between then comes with size to me, I feel like I can control the small one better.
Plus they are all small and cute nd cuddly and can sit on me without making my legs go numb lol00 Reply

I currently have a 50lb beagle mix, just because of apartment restrictions. But her bark makes her sound a lot bigger than she is. I'm thankful for that; makes her sound intimidating!10 Reply
