What part of your culture are you most and least proud of?

Culture comprises of all ways of living of people in a civilization. Culture consists of the beliefs, customs, traditions, ethical and moral values of groups of persons. People with similar culture live together in general. People of a region have a culture that evolves over many decades.

Our culture makes up a large part of who we are.

I'm an Indian. There are things I appreciate about my culture and some I would wish could change.

India has always been considered a culturally rich country with -
1. Diverse food habits.
2. Traditions & Beliefs.
3. Social Customs & Attire.
4. Language.
5. Festivals.

That being said, Ours is a very patriarchal society (in general). We have over the years mistreated women and not given them equal opportunities. Even today I'm told sometimes to focus more on learning household activities as I'm anyway going to end up being a housewife.

Another this that bother me personally is sex being seen as a Taboo. And not only by elders, as I have friends who refuse to let me talk to them about sex and tell me they would rather choose to be ignorant.

I'm probably most proud of our continued status as the absolute pinnacle of individual freedom on this planet. Because of our constitution we don't have to worry about free speech problems like, say, Canada right now.

I'm also proud of the technological advancements my culture has made. If it weren't for the advancements of the British and Americans the annual global death toll would be so much higher right now.

Barring the low-hanging fruit of racism which has been done to death in the comments I thought I'd mention something that wasn't also a part of every other civilization ever -

I'm not so proud of the fact that we take everything for granted. Everything. Nothing's appreciated anymore. The masses in America grow up so well off that when they see someone who can't afford an iPhone they think they're living in inhumane conditions. The reason communism is making a comeback after all the destruction it's brought upon the world is because people here don't even realize that the poor people in our country have it better than most people on the planet. Were so ridiculously well-off that we're trying to self-sabotage our own country.

Also not proud of our public health. 76% of us are overweight and 33% are medically obese. That's not good

I'm Indian. we have lots of festivals to worship our god. we give more value to marriages and can't get separate very easily. we give much importance to our education. the only thing i hate about our country is our beliefs. our parents try to force us to chose a career which gives much money such as in IT, banking, any govt field following poor family background, excessive population. people have dreams to fulfill but restricted to work in uninterested field. I'm not saying everyone comes into it. few people were working passionately, few people were working forcibly.

I like the fact that people from my country are joyful, even tough they suffer a lot and that we have a violent and sad History.
I also like the fact that they're welcoming. And also that they stick to their beliefs, they don't let themselves being controlled by the Portuguese people.
On the other hand, I don't like the fact that they expect women to get married and have kids. They expect women to be submissive towards their husbands or boyfriends.
I don't like their views on homosexuality, I don't like the way they treat disabled people and I don't like the way they worship our former President.

I'm Afrikaans speaking. My culture is that I am a boer. I am proud that the boere always stand together. We are a very proud culture and family is very important to us. We are hardworking and will stop at nothing until we reach our goals.

I am least proud of our history in South Africa and how we treated the black Africans.

First of all, I've really been raised with a bit of two cultures. The main one is Dutch, but quite a substantial part (food and others) is mostly Israeli.

I'm reasonable proud of the fact that my country is quite welcoming and also was at the forefront of legalising gay marriage and accepting all that LGBT stuff.

I'm least proud of the food. Dutch food is horrible, main things there are is 'stamppot', which basically is potato mashed together with whatever you can find. Other stuff is just deep-fried crap

I am Indian as well, and I feel the same way about views on women. My friends and I talk openly about sex but I agree that it is a taboo topic, and I am personally waiting until I am married. Pre-martial sex is forbidden in my religion anyways. For me, the biggest is that it is taboo to marry outside your ethnicity. This is the main reason why I am still single.

I think I can honestly say I don't follow my culture. I'm Asian. There are too many flaws in Asian culture: beating someone is okay, blindly respecting elders, style, view of foreigners based on stereotyping. I'm grown so I don't need a little culture rule book to tell me how to live my life.

My family is Polish and some things I am proud of

1. Music
2. Festivals
3. Architecture
4. The various ethnic groups
5. Their pastries/chocolates

Some things I am NOT so proud of, Polish people are EXTREMELY nationalistic to the point that the slightest criticism of their country will set them off, even if THEY talk trash about other countries.
They are also anti-sematic and extremely greedy. Close friends and life long neighbors will not even do favors for each other without receiving something in return.
Also, they're bureaucracy. It takes ages to get things done.

My nickname is in honor of a great Native American warrior (Mapuche) I feel great admiration for that culture. Although I only have a part of the Native Americans (my great-great-grandmother was a Mapuche) from childhood I have been interested in the history of the natives, mainly because of their obstinate rebelliousness, their defense of the environment and their courage.

I also have respect and admiration for the rest of my ancestors, I am a Chilean working class, my parents, grandparents, great grandparents... they were all miners, they were very hard workers, and everyone was class conscious.

What bothers me about our culture is that people do not take responsibility for their actions, for example the population of wanderers dogs is incredibly high. Nor do I like excessive criticism of national artists and credulity towards the media.

I'm most proud of our incredible determination and strategic thinking. I'm least proud of our dumb and pointless traditions like men keeping their hair incredibly short, I think they look ridiculous. They even force the boys in school to cut their hair like every few weeks or something.
