My daddy wants to talk to my boyfriend!!! (Fathers please?)

Before I go into this let me point out that my parents are pretty wealthy (about $10,000,000 incomes). And they kind of want me to be with someone that is close to our Social Status (wealthy).

My boyfriend's parents were way wealthier then my family but my boyfriend didn't want the lifestyle so he went off and join the military got a small house, meanwhile his parents ended up making poor choices and going poor!

BUT

my boyfriend WAS brought up in like the same style of life that my parents want.

Now that you know the back story *rolls eyes*

My father told me I have been spending an awfully lot of time with my boyfriend (which I totally have), and he says he want's to have a talk with my boyfriend . . . just the two of them and he won't tell me what its about. I'm scared he may try and scare off my boyfriend or he may have found out about the sex . . . which I LOVE MY BOYFRIEND so I'd kinda like him to be alive!

Any fathers out there know what my fathers plotting?

(Uhm OK where are you people seeing me say that there is a problem between me and my boyfriend? Last I checked my boyfriend was happy with me and I was happy with him, this is about my father wanting to talk to my boyfriend totally out of the blue! )

Your father will put the boy in a stance of tension insisting that he calm down probably and that he just wants to talk. He is giving the boy a talk about how you are first and foremost his daughter then the boys girlfriend and that he better treat HIS daughter well and properly. He can only continue to date his daughter if he has the intention of marrying his daughter one day and why he wants to marry his daughter. To what extent?

Something along these lines. I got the crap scared out of me then went back through my mouth to hide again.

But one thing you have to understand is that not only does have have to gain your love and approval but he has to do the same for all of your friends and family members. So if he decides to stop dating you because your dad was a bit intimidating he doesn't truly care for you which I'm sure he does so you should be fine. I just hope you two respect the boundaries that are set out for you. Relationships go a lot further when major signs of respect and responsibility are shown not only for each other but everyone around them.

I'm not a father but I think he just wants to meet him, see if he is a good guy and passes the tests to see if his is good enough for you. Joining the military isn't necessarily a "poor decision", in fact its very admirable to some people and he is probably a lot more mature than 90% of guys you will meet his age because of it.

The fact that he came from a family of your background means that he obviously has a valid reason to why he joined the military and your father will more than likely understand his reason.

If your parents are as powerful as you say they are there they aren't just going to tell him to scram, they are going to see if he has his head on straight and if he gains your dads approval then who knows, he might even go to extra distance to put him in a position so that he can support both of you financially.

As powerful as you view your father, he isn't going to kill anyone.

I also want to add that I'm very close with a family that makes even more than yours.

They are the most understanding people I know and two of the children have married people of lesser social class than them.

He's trying to figure out what your boyfriend's future prospects are. Either that or he's going to tell him to stay very far away from you.

It doesn't matter if your boyfriend WAS brought up in the same style of life that your parents want. The key is to REMAIN like that. Although with wealth, your rearing may be more refined than the average person, that means nothing if you don't have enough wealth left to maintain that lifestyle.

This answer is totally irrelevant. Some people are of the opinion that your parent's approval is important regardless of whether or not they still support you in life.

I work for my own money but I wouldn't ever tell my parents that their opinion doesn't matter to me. They've fed me and clothed me for the majority of my life, I think they have a right to that at least.
