What I'm wondering is: what is the relationship between "you" and the girl he loves?

I understand that "you" is his ex and now he sees his ex with his new love. But then later he says "I still love you" which makes me think that "the girl he loves" is his ex...I don't know

So who are the characters in this story and what are their relationships to each other?

Whether we're talking about the edited or unedited version of the song is irrelevant. The message is the same. Also, if you read the lyrics of the song the only parts that pertain to the new boyfriend are the first few lines. Everything else is directed at his ex.

The end of the music video for this song show's his ex (who dumped him) working a low paying job while Cee-lo (who is now rich and famous) drives up with a car load of girls. It is clear to her now that Cee-lo has accomplished much more than the guy who she dumped him for. She now regrets her decision.

It's f*** you, the song is just him saying f*** you in a fun way to the guy that is seeing the girl he used to date, there are probably some things that don't match but that's because movies and songs are there to entertain first and make sense next, and this is a great song

It's about this gold digger he used to like, and I think he always liked her but she rejected him for someone richer. So basically he's saying "f*** you" (or "forget you" for those who don't have a mouth like a sailor like myself) because now HE'S rich and can get any girl.

It's simple. You have to listen to the context of when he says "you". There are three characters: Cee-Lo, his ex-girlfriend, and her new beau.

At one point he says: "I see you driving 'round town with the girl I love and I'm like, 'forget you'".

That's to his ex's new man.

I think every other "you" references her (his ex).
