What’s your biggest screw up in the kitchen?

Whether you did it when you were a kid or a as misguided college student, you’ve had a seriously bad screw up in the kitchen. So what happened?

I have sliced open so many fingers, burned so many recipes, and started so many toaster oven fires, it’s a wonder I ever venture to return to my kitchen! I could probably destroy any recipe, despite how uncomplicated it might be.

Some of my recent, more careless mistakes:
Just yesterday, I was drinking while cooking and set a frozen DiGiorno pizza for 450 minutes at 15 degrees!
About a week ago, I thought I was baking cookies, but I completely forgot to turn the oven on.. Let's just say it took A LOT longer than it should have to realize my mistake..

I'm actually a really good cook, I've loved to cook since I was little. I have a collection of cast iron pans that I love using. One time I was broiling steaks on a small pan that I had just seared the first side over pretty high heat, transferred the pan and steaks to the broiler. Got them out of the broiler exercising caution and using a potholder to get the pan from the oven. Next, as I was getting ready to plate up the steaks, I grabbed the still really hot handle with my bare hand! Ouchie! Needless to say, the steaks weren't the only thing that got seared by that pan!! Had to nurse burned fingers while trying to have a romantical dinner... Doesn't work too well! So be careful with cast iron cookware, it gets very hot!

That reminds me of the time I burnt my eggs, then touched the bottom of the pan after I turned it over in attempt to save them.. -facepalm-

When cooking with cast iron you have to remember the handle gets hot really quickly too! Most of my cast iron is way older than I am, my grandmum gave me a couple pieces that were old when she got them. The ones with the really smooth interiors are the ones to look for, they've been worn smooth by being used. Just have to watch for warped bottoms, they don't work as well when they're warped, causes them to heat unevenly.

I'm actually a really good cook, but once I made the awful mistake of broiling frozen burgers (which is ok) wrapped in bacon (not ok). The grease from the bacon started a grease fire that almost burnt my apartment down. That was kind of terrifying.

That's a genuine fear of mine every time I cook.
When I was a teenager, I started a grease fire and tried to put it out with water..
Fucking HUGE mistake.

Thankfully, I don't do THAT anymore. lol

Something that I used to do a lot is leave something on the stove, forget to set a timer, and forget about it until it's burned to a crisp.

Luckily they were electric stoves so there was never any huge danger. I no longer do that anymore though.

OMG you are a goofball,..
My screw up have involved usually forgetting to turn of the gas on time,.
One time there was nothing on the stove.
Other time just a pan!.

Thankfully, Having recently Left a Slow oven Behind that didn't quite Bake my Cake. I have a New One, hun, Now, Down South. xx

I essentially cremated my steak and potatoes tinfoil meal, when I put the oven on self cleaning.
