If someone expects you to forgive and forget too fast, they're not remorseful right?

Question

If the offense was something done deliberately and/or persistent (not just a simple ''oops I forgot your b-day'' thing) such as bullying or going out of their ways to hurt your feelings.

If after they apologize, they expect you to already forgive and forget too fast or else they get upset if you don't... then that means they weren't remorseful right? Does that mean their apology was insincere?

I think if they were in a state of anger or angst or stress... that type of thing, then maybe they acted or spoke impulsively and didn't mean what they said. And if they have a habit of doing that, and then wanting a takeback, then it's sort of a character flaw you have to try and deal with.

But if they were calm, calculated, of their 'right' mind, and it's a chronic issue with them... then yes, I think you're right - they're not remorseful.

Sometimes the person asking for forgiveness is seeking self peace. In fact, that IS what everyone asks for when asking for forgiveness. However, it feels HORRIBLE when someone won't forgive at your pace. Not that you're entitled to someone's sense of peace, they'll need to learn to accept that not everyone forgets easily.

TLDR: They are regretful but they fail to realize that the process isn't fast.

It's hard to say for sure, but I'd lean towards yes if they expect you to just drop it and sweep it under the rug when you aren't ready yet or feel it is something you can't move past. While apologizing and trying to make something right that you did wrong in the past is very noble, people also need to realize that depending on what they did and the severity of it, some people may not be willing to forgive them, and they need to learn to accept that.

However, if it's something someone has continually tried to make right and the person continues to throw it in their face after they have said all is forgiven, I think that's a different story. Either you've forgiven them or you haven't.

No they’re not remorseful at all. They’re just trying to manipulate you and absolve themselves all while dismissing and invalidating your feelings and experience. Forgive on your own time when it feels right for you. If people who wronged you wanted to be written about warmly in your life’s story they should’ve been kinder.
