It's not about doing things for someone in public. Chivalry was something a man did for a woman to show her he valued and respected her, and appreciated the differences between them that made her special to him, which were her feminine virtues. And it was something a woman appreciated in a man, too.
That is mostly a thing of the past because women are no longer special. In fact, they have tried very hard NOT to be special and have tried to essentially deny the differences between men and women that made them see each other as special. Women have lost the privilege of being treated chivalrously.
I hear a lot of women today lament the fact that men are no longer chivalrous. If they want men to be chivalrous, they need to bring back true femininity. That's the only way it will ever happen.
The article SiberFox linked is a good one.

You do know that chivalry has almost nothing to do with women right?
The idea that chivalry mainly deals with women and how to treat them is a misconception and factually/historically false.
and nothing would change I in general expect nothing from women and that wouldn’t change if it was reversed.
What Guys Said
Just be feminine, too many women overlook this.
