What do you think of the Headington Shark?

Yes, there's a shark crashing through the roof of a house in Headington, Oxford , England. No, it's not Sharknado.

The shark was put up by the homeowner in 1986, inspired by American warplanes flying overhead on their way to bomb Libya in retaliation for its terrorist attacks, as a protest against the bombing and a statement against nuclear weapons.

It is considered legitimate artwork.

According to what I've read, the neighbours are fine with it. The local council tried to have it removed, but the courts intervened and decided that it could remain, as a legitimate exhibition of art.

Um, what path from the US to Libya goes through England? How lost were those pilots?

The planes were launched from a base in the UK.

To fly all that distance? The Air Force didn't have anywhere closer? In 1986, you'd be flying over MORE hostile territory going from England than from somewhere in the US.

I think they're just unwilling to admit that they sent somebody who couldn't read a map.

From England, you fly over France and then the Mediterranean Sea, neither of those are hostile.
