y'all get into arguments i will remove the argument so don't force your beliefs on others.
+1 yI've killed spiders on purpose because I hate spiders and I don't want them in MY space. If I can have them moved safely outdoors, I will. But I DO NOT want them crawling on me in the process. I understand they serve a purpose since they eat bugs and stuff, but I just don't like our paths crossing. Especially when it comes to my bedroom. Like no. You are not sharing the bed with me. Lol
I've killed other bugs or insects (especially mosquitoes - I have no shame in killing those since they seem to just LOVE biting me). I've accidentally killed a squirrel. I hit it with my car and felt pretty bad for the little guy. He started to run across, then debated on what to do and unfortunately made the wrong decision and met his end courtesy of my back tire. I heard the little thump and looked back in my mirror and yep... he was dead in the road. I was like oops. Sorry little dude.
I also hit my first deer finally (I love how I say "finally" like I was just waiting for it to happen - but I live in a highly populated deer area, so it's surprising it didn't happen way sooner). Whether it lived or died is debatable. It actually hit ME to be technical. I was driving and seen one deer run across, so I slowed to avoid her. As soon as I started to go again, another ran right into my driver's side. I heard the thump and knew we definitely made contact. A witness stopped to make sure I was ok and help me check my car. The witness confirmed yes, it WAS struck. They said at first it was still in the road behind me (I had pulled up a little so I had a better area to pull off the road to assess the situation and call the police to report it). It ended up running off, so I don't know if it had fatal injuries or not. I didn't see the body anywhere when I took the same road the very next morning (it is a road I travel pretty much daily for work)... so if it died, it had to have ran out into the fields/woods to die. I would assume it probably did since I know most deer definitely die once they're hit by a car... even at a lower speed. Luckily for me, my car didn't have any damage amazingly enough. I had some deer blood on my driver's side light (eww lol), but no actual damage to repair. I credit the first deer for that actually. Since I was already WAY below the speed limit to avoid her, I was spared damage from the second one.

+1 yAnswering this from the outside list so I don’t have to read others replies.
An owl flew in front of my truck when driving on a freeway over a talk mountain pass. I doubled back to see if it was suffering. My friends mother worked for Patagonia at the time and they have wildlife recovery locations nearby.
A squirrel doubled back, questioning itself after darting out in front of my bike. It had cleared and slowed but it was too fast.
Won’t get over either. Thankfully they were both quick.32 Reply- +1 y

819 opinions shared on Other topic. I have, and msputiton, I have to tell you that I had an incident when I was 16 with my father, that I have to live with until I die, and it always haunts me in a very terrible way. When I was that age, my dad took me hunting, and I enjoyed being outdoors with the dogs, (hounds) but I confess I did kill a few cotton tail rabbits, and am not proud of that, to this day.
The incident I must 'live' with to this day is this and it is horrible to recall. We were fox hunting and honest to god this is terrible. We found 'fox dens' and put a gas in the dens that forced the young ones out. One time a tiny cub was coming out to escape the gas and I shot this poor creature trying to escape dying in the gas. I was 16 years old and am now in my 40's and that horrible scene lives on in my mind to this day, never to be forgotten, nor for me to escape the terrible I still feel for doing such a disponible thing.
I never went hunting again, and forgive me, I cannot live this down. Thank you for allowing me to unload this on you.

Rabbts are an invasive species. They reproduce and consume resources at an unsustainable level. If your family lost its garden to a family of rabbits, would you then starve during the winter and watch your mother father and sister etc. die of hunger to save the cute widdle wabbits from your own survival priorities? Seems pretty insane in this context and it's how you need to view the world. A rabbit would eat your brain out of your head if it meant them living and they wouldn't have the brain power or prefrontal contex to even give a fuck.
- +1 y
@PatriceONeal Completely irrelevant to the post you responded to. Protecting your resources is not even remotely similar to hunting for sport. Also, try using a fence.
"Rabbits are an invasive species." This is ridiculous. Firstly, where? They can't be invasive everywhere; they must be native somewhere. Secondly, rabbits are not a single species. Here in eastern Massachusetts, NATIVE New England cottontails are being displaced by INVASIVE eastern cottontails. The kicker: some people attribute their spread to declining predator populations. Why are the predators declining? Because they're eating poisoned rats. Attempts to control one pest have created another.
"A rabbit would eat your brain [...] they wouldn't have the brain power or prefrontal cortex to even give a fuck." This has never been a good argument for any sort of violence. I'm not even saying it's wrong to kill rabbits, but THIS argument in particular is awful. An inability to sympathize with you says nothing about a creature's own capacity for suffering. A toddler with a gun could kill you without understanding, but that doesn't make it open season on toddlers. Hell, some ADULT people are incapable of understanding or feeling remorse, but that doesn't justify preemptively killing them because you think they might do the same to you in some specific scenario. - +1 y
@Subglacial baby humans aren't comparable to wild animals. Everything you said is meaningless. "Can't be invasive everywhere" I think everyone who read that got dumber.

@Subglacial I'm curious if you are vegan/vegetarian. Whichever is the one that eats 0 meat products.
+1 yI’m a farm boy. So, that seems entirely normal to me. I prepared plenty of my own chickens and turkeys and lambs…helped prepare hogs. And, of course, I’ve hunted all kinds of game. I like to eat meat. So, killing animals as a normal thing for me

What's your favourite meat?
- +1 y
@Snedger____ Venison, by far
- +1 y
Wow nice.
- +1 y
@DesiUwU I encourage you to go for it. Venison is not, at all scary. It is a red meat. I would say it falls between beef and lamb. It is very lean (and you want to trim away all the white fat and only keep the bright red meat), so it requires a light hand when cooking. But if not overcooked it is tender and has it’s own savory flavor. It isn’t a strong flavor or anything really exotic; just slightly different from lean beef or lean mutton.
I think many people are initially put off because meats all have a different aroma when cooking. Venison does not smell like beef or lamb or veal. So, that scares people, sometimes. But it is just different—not strange—once you taste it.

I actually let spiders life but once I had a lot of baby-spiders in my bath and since that I can't let spiders life with me anymore... if I can, I will just bring them out but if not... bye.. yeah32 Reply- +1 y
Daddy long legs too? They kill mosquitos and don't bite. They're chill.
+1 yI am not a fan of insects, especially spiders. Fortunately, my husband simply moves them outside to a sheltered location. I have hunted in the past with my father, quail. I don't feel terrible about that, but I do feel bad when an animal gets killed without purpose, such as in an accident along the road.

+1 yBeing a farmer it is an unfortunate part of the life. Having to put down my first dog because he was figured out how to escape his kennel and taken a sheep. Once they get the taste of blood they are not the same. Still heart broken over many.
One that I still feel for, however it was made into something beautiful. Was being part of a ceremony in which a buffalo was sacrificed for the tribe I am a part of in my area. To which every part was divided amongst the family.
I personally have a hard time being around when the act is performed as I personally feel as a part of the animal in that moment. Heck I have a hard time if a bunny or mouse is skittering across a desert dirt road and have the unfortunate timing of meeting the vehicle in some fashion.20 Reply
+1 yQuite a few. I've killed bugs, but you might not be counting those; that was a defense of territory (or body, in the case of mosquitoes), so I feel no guilt there. I've killed a few spiders, mostly by mistake; minor guilt there, since they helped with the bugs. I've killed a handful of mice; territory defense again, so no guilt.
Everything else I've killed I've either eaten or given to others to eat; that's as natural as natural gets, no guilt- save for one crippled bunny whose spine had been broken, which faced nothing but terror, pain, and hunger until some predator finished it off. My knife was both quicker and cleaner. I wish there had been another way, but it doesn't really bother me.

m +1 yoh, nonhuman...
a few times, because I had to... and I've never feel good about it
it's been just pests and little critters that I cannot risk to have within my clothes, or children, pets... nor adults for that matter, it is not fun to lose a toe to one of those crazy Texas spiders, lol
bigger than that, I haven't... not personally, not even as hunting or raising animals, which is a tradition in parts of my extended family, I just don't feel good about it and I do not have to do it either, lol.. not yet
now, if the day comes in which we have to live more off-the-grid... then yes, it will be the most natural thing and I would be able to do it, properly20 Reply
+1 yMy family are hunters. My dad bought me a high powered rifle. My cousin and I were driving along the logging roads, sipping whiskey, and listening to some tunes.
We came across two does. They had no fear, and were just eating grass and almost smiling at us.
My rifle was a cannon, and my cousin's rifle was a bigger cannon. My hunting days ended that day.
They call hunting a "sport", but as one comedian once said: "Hunting is the only sport where the other team doesn't know they're playing."
All I ever wanted to do, was go camping with the family. It's fun to be a pioneer.

As long as you do it quick and painless there's nothing wrong with it
I have also occasionally had to shoot a predator because it was a threat to my chickens

+1 yI feel bad about killing animals if they suffer. Saw a squirrel when I was probably 16 and its bones were dislocated. It was trying to hide somewhere and I put the guy out of his misery cuz I hated the idea of it being eaten alive while it's already in such a shitty situation.
That said, I'm excited to go deer hunting.

+1 yI have killed a few deer. Where I live, when drivers hit deer, they have to call the cops and then the cop (me) has to go and put the deer down on the side of the road and arrange its removal.
I have a big soft spot for animals so I don't enjoy killing them, but a bullet to the back of the head is infinitely more humane than allowing the animal to lay on the side of the street with its insides all mangled and just waiting for it to die.

But I also had to pout a few pets down and I felt a little bad about that. I did it for their good though and would rather then be done with this life then to struggle.
20 ReplyWhen my dad got me my first bb gun I killed a lot I do feel remorse after a few more bad experiences I think of my dad who is big into hunting I think well what if hunting was illegal do you feel the need to kill because I know people that seem to have to kill all I know is every human and every animal have one thing that they all do and that is trying to live sometimes I wish the table was turned

I've also euthanized my ill pets when they could no longer live without extreme pain or function. That is a sad day, but it has to be done or they just suffer more, and you'll be just as sad when they die, or maybe worse because you had to watch it.

I eat meat so I have no issue with people that fish or hunt, so that you can have something to eat. Since it's a lot better to eat wild animals than having animals living in captivity.

+1 yYes, I have. I am an avid hunter, so I do it to put meat in my freezer not to put a head on the wall. I have had to put down wounded and sick animals, and I have raised animals strictly for the purpose of eating them. If a person kills an animal for the fun of it they need to see a shrink. For me it is just the natural order of things.
