Someone on the street called me a bitch and it’s made me feel really down?

I was waking across a street. On my right, a driver politely let me cross and I waved and thanked him. There were no cars coming on the other side of the road and I made my way across. There was a little road 1-2 metres in length and I wasn’t sure what this was for but since I already had crossed the other side of the road I was still focused on the other side of the road if you get what I mean.

So a cyclist happened to be coming from the opposite way as I was crossing , and he shouted angrily at me open your eyes and called me a bitch. He stopped and told me ‘next time I’ll run you over’ . I apologised and felt awful.

The whole incident shook me up. Now whenever I cross this street I keep looking for cyclists. I just wanted to share because it’s been getting me down:( pls don’t judge me, I didn’t mean to do it

If you were walking across the street and when you got to the other side - depending on which way the bike lane is set up, maybe there wasn't any indication that it was a bike lane. No signs saying bike lane? Or painted to let people know it's a bike lane?
Perhaps because of heavy traffic, people need to take extra care and being observent of all their surroundings at all times.

Bicyclist are getting notoriety. There is an app that rates them in terms of how fast they have gone that encourages the sort of behavior you are describing.

I have seen bicyclist pushing through shared roadway pedestrians being abusive. Where I am they are required to give way to peds but don't and they go faster than cars.

Bicycles need to have number plates so we can report them to the police. Don't take shit from them.

If you are the pedestrian you have right of way. The law is on your side. In Southern states we are taught in elementary school that you don't step out in front of traffic. Not so in Northern states. When I lived in Massachusetts it was common for pedestrians to step out in from of you and it seemed the only reason was so they could grace you with a raised middle finger and exercise a foul vocabulary.

Not sure where you live, but where I live cyclists are required to follow the rules of the road, including pedestrian right-of-way laws. If you were legally crossing the street, the bicyclist was the one at fault, not you.
