Most are illegal in Illinois - people just get them in Indiana or elsewhere.
ANY professionally-managed fireworks show I've been seen has: 1. roped off areas around the shooting zone to catch any hot debris. 2. firetruck (s) on location to wet down any errant shots. 3. personnel- police, fire-fighters and CD (civil defense)- walking the perimeter to keep people back in the fenced "safe zone".
About 56 years ago, a mortar tube DID fall over as it was being fired (manually by flare, not using electrical triggers as now). The firework skimmed the lawn of the park, burst against a fence, and nothing appeared to have caught fire. The fire department hosed to down anyway.
Just to put the "cost of fires" in perspective for some readers here, the 9-11 attack included, "The destruction of major buildings in the World Trade Center with a replacement cost of from $3 billion to $4.5 billion."
No, but maybe they should be more tightly regulated.
The only time you really see them in the uk is guy fawkes night and new year's eve. There's no shortage of idiots who blow their own faces off or stick them up cats bottoms. If you were to handle them at work you'd have to do a long health and safety course but in your own home anyone can have a play. So yes restrict them to authorized displays.
How about no, British culture comes first
my dog hates them and i spent hours parked near the airport as they are banned
I can put up with in NYE, July 4th... it's when they go off for a week on either side of it that I can't stand. One of my rescue kittens hates them so I have to take her down into the soundproofed room, but then I can't entertain the other one. Having to run back and forth for two weeks is obnoxious.
The world does not revolve around your pets, why should our fun stop because you choose to have pets
@DarkLegacy Because where I live they are illegal every other day, it just isn't enforced.
The world does not revolve around your kids. I still have to pay tax for their schooling. Society is a compromise, that's what it has to do with it.
@BoopBoopBeep I have no kids, fireworks are part of peoples culture, you have no right to dictate on that just because you don't agree, and going back to what you say, you cannot even even enforce a ban. You wanna ban fireworks but guns are legal and ownership is enshrined in your constitution. Lol.
@DarkLegacy Are you trying to make a point? We regulate a lot of "fun." Drinking is fun, can't do it and drive if you're over.08BAC. I think it's fun to shoot bad guys in the face. If I unilaterally decide to do it it's frowned upon. A once great empire reduced to the brittle feculence it is today, I'd think you of all people would appreciate why anarchy doesn't work.
@BoopBoopBeep The empire should be gone but its legacy lives on. Fireworks are regulated and enough its put in place. What a thing for you to come out with about shooting people in the face, i think fireworks are fun but unlike guns they are designed to entertain and not kill
@DarkLegacy Well then we agree that someone's fun does not allow it to exist without limit, so now we're just discussing the point on the gradient on which we should act. That's great. That's progress.
Most firearms never kill anything. Far more of them protect without even needing to kill. What they are actually intended for is protection. Statistically they're pretty shite at killing. When my elderly mother used hers it was enough to pull it. Didn't have to kill anyone because he got some act right. Same for my girlfriends who have been in similar situations.
Notwithstanding, you want guns regulated to some extent, surely. Some people consider them fun. Society regulates fun all the time. Stop acting so shocked.

OMG YES!
And I'm not only saying that because I have a hearing sensitivity issue... 😅
What would be the justification for banning them?
@Karen444 When and where?
@Karen444 So you can't cite any examples and the best "defense" is to fabricate a reason to call me stupid?
@old
dangit... @OlderAndWiser isn't that how we do discourse now a days...
... and not to mention... she IS advertising that she's a karen...
@BoopBoopBeep
I'm not Karen, but look at your retarded name. lol
@Karen444 It's literally in your name karen. you are karen444
can't make this stuff up folks
@Karen444 You didn't use the word but your implication was quite clear. And I''m still waiting for you to list two or three fires started by fireworks which cost billions of dollars to extinguish. Please don't respond until you can provide that list, or until you want to admit that you just made up that "fact" because you wanted to jump into the middle of someone else's conversation to demonstrate how brilliant you are.
You and Boopy are right. I am wrong. Fireworks don't start fires. They never have, and they never will. I'm stupid and you are brilliant. Cities in America that ban fireworks are wrong. You are right. You and Boopy are brilliant. I put out a forest fire with five gallons of ice tea, but it never happened because Boopy and you said so.
@Karen444 Can you respond to my request for fires started by fireworks that cost billions of dollars to extinguish, or admit that it is a totally fabricated fact, I don't want to read ANY MORE drivel that ignores the point I made. Get it?
@Karen444 That was your last chance to have a conversation with me. Goodbye!
@Karen444 whats the name of your condition?
@OlderAndWiser In the drier "summer yellow and brown grass" parts of the western USA. Now for the rainy eastern USA, this is not an issue, but sadly out here it is.
@Curmudgeon I have no doubt that fireworks can occasionally start fires. My question is whether they start fires which cost "billions" to extinguish. I think that is totally fabricated BS.
I gues they have to be done in selected areas, like over water over entirely paved over areas. I LOVE fireworks, but I also live in an area where the grasses dry and turn brown in the summer, which makes for fire hazards.
As for pets, I had hunting dogs, so they were thrilled by the noises.
You should make friends with the anon guy who wants to police islands in the Pacific for nudity.
regulated yes but banned? no unless small municipalities want to make their own rules. but i don't think the state or federal government should be involved in that decision
I'm fine with limiting their use to prevent stupid people from hurting themselves or catching something on fire, but I don't see any reason to fully ban them.
No. Everything is too over regulated these days, eventually you are going to have to fill out paperwork in triplicate just to take a piss.
Alcohol and fireworks are an American Tradition.
I watched a firefighter standing on a roof of a house engulfed in flames. He had a chain saw and was cutting a hole in the roof. The flames were all around him. And where I live, fireworks are illegal, but cops don't care. That roof could have collapsed at any second, and he would have died.
@Karen444 Fireworks are illegal where I live too but you can drive 50 miles and buy them over the border. The state police camp out by the fireworks stores and sent the license plate numbers to the cops waiting over the border and when the cars come back into the state they get pulled over.
Because of Georgie Boy, you can now drive 90 MPH in a school district. You no longer need to wear seat belts or even have a plate on your car. The retarded moronic governor wanted the fire department to respond to home invasions, because firemen don’t have guns. That went over like a fart in church, so the police now respond to home invasions. My governor ran for the presidency, but Biden beat him with his superior intellect.
It's so fucking hot here I think I'm dead. I heard on the news today that it rained 6 inches in Penalanyia, and four people died. I'm not sure how to process that. How short were they? I don't understand C++ or Java, but couldn't they just jump on a tree stump? Maybe get on an elevator? Life is so complicated.
Jump in my shitty Chevy, and I will take you to higher ground. I watched a lot of YouTube videos about Hurricane Katrina. They said that humans build homes below sea level, but gophers do not.
I met a husband and wife that were truck drivers. They were a team. They were always on the road, and their pet in the truck was a gopher. I got to hold and pet their gopher. She was as cute as a bug's ear. She abandoned her kind, and identified as a human. Her legs were short, so it was doubtful that she could ever be a trucker. But her arms were strong, so I'm pretty sure she could steer the rig.

You know I'm a classical guitarist, but don't tell anyone I have a 5 string banjo.
Most tards on this site hate that I'm a Karen. LMAO
When you and I come back in our next lifetime, you can teach computer stuff, and I'm going to teach banjo lessons.
When I visit my brother (weekly) we bust out the Foggy Mountain Break Down.
We are both monsters that voted for Trump. lol
No there fine. The only time they should be illegal is if your state/ county is in a drought.
Depending on the area and wild fire conditions it should be fine.
Should be illegal during the summer months due to wildfire danger
Sure, I wouldn’t mind them being illegal. They are too loud and can be dangerous also.
Only in or near forests and other places that are in danger of wildfires. Here in the concrete jungle they should be legal
They are illegal where I live. You can be fined or go to jail depending on how much you are caught with
Does not surprise me that more women think to ban them then men, lol
I like the professional shows. But backyard fireworks are noisy and obnoxious
I love fireworks no. You just have to be professional and careful when lighting them off
No but they are illegal where I live and they still do them on 4th of July
I would not be surprised if the majority said yes are dog owners or were in the military.
They start fires, and they are dangerous as hell, and people refuse to use them responsibly.
Yes, they terrify wildlife. Another example of humans forgetting that we share the planet.
No how else am i suppose to hide gunshots 🙂
Yes, absolutely. Is Canada still on fire?
Yes, they serve no purpose.
They are an important part of peoples culture, you do not get to dictate peoples culture
Not at all.
