Everybody thought Tyson would steamroll him, my dad was so pissed hahaha
Tell me the story what happened lol
My parents were divorced and my mom didn't have cable, so I didn't get to see it live like in the 80's when my dad and I would watch Tyson's earlier fights. I just remember my dad saying he got lucky. Looking back and reading about the fight and watching the video a few years ago made me realize that Douglas beat his ass. Tyson hardly trained for the fight, was too busy partying and being in top of the world. Douglas dug deep for the win because his mom just died. In his mind he had to win, there was so much more at stake for him. Tyson thought he had it in the bag and didn't give a shit. That's where he fucked up.
Wow, man that's crazy to hear the full story behind what really went down in that Tyson vs Douglas fight.
He was also laid up partying and having sex with Chinese girls all night with Bobby Brown the night before his fight with Buster I heard in an interview.
Your dad must've been so shook after Douglas won, now it all makes sense why he didn't wanna admit the truth at first. As one of Tyson's biggest fans, dude was straight up heartbroken I'm sure. All his boy's dominance came crashing down in one night, that's gotta sting like hell.
Plus the fact your dad and you used to bond over watching Tyson's early fights together must've made it hurt even more. All those memories suddenly didn't mean shit after Buster pulled off the miracle. I can only imagine the denial and anger your dad was feeling in those first few days.
But man, the more I think about Douglas' story, the more I gain mad respect for what he accomplished that night. Dude digging Deep like that with his mom's recent passing, fighting with her spirit in his corner - that's some real warrior shit. You can see it in his eyes during the fight too, the man was possessed to win at any costs.
While Tyson was out partying without a care in the world, Douglas was channeling pain into precision. He clearly wanted it more when it mattered most, in the biggest moment of his career. Truly amazing he was able to pull off being a 42-1 underdog, just blows my mind.
Now I can understand why your old man came around eventually. At the end of the day, you gotta tip your hat to Douglas - he earned boxing immortality with one of the greatest sports upsets ever. Props to him for schooling the so-called "invincible" Tyson with sheer grit and heart. What a story, for real!
I think everyone was betting on Tyson it was like 42-1 or something odds in favour of Tyson! So everyone thought easy win for Tyson as they were saying Buster was like a carpet installer guy!
